Thought for the Day – 15 January – Meditations with Antonio Cardinal Bacci (1881-1971)
HELL 3
“The greatest punishment, however, will be that of LOSS.
This is the knowledge that we have lost forever, our one, true and highest good.
God Himself!
The soul will now understand, fully, what it means to have lost God forever.
It will feel irresistibly, the need to be united with Him and to see, enjoy and love Him.
But, at the same time, it will KNOW that God has cast it away from Himself for all eternity, “Go, accursed soul, into everlasting fire!”
Then, the irresistible need for God, will turn to hate and eternal malediction.
The terrifying reality of hell, should not leave us amazed, as if it were an act of implacable severity.
Rather, it should be a warning to us.
God should not seem to us to be a pitiless judge but a judge who is infinitely just and infinitely good.
Rather than send us to hell, God gave us His only-begotten Son, Who died on the Cross for our sins.
Just as the Redemption is a work of infinite love and goodness, so hell is a work of infinite justice.
If we reflect on the mystery of the Incarnation, on the Redemption and on the death of the Son of God, it will appear that, omnipotent though He is, He could not have done more to save us.
The divine work of the Redemption explains the mystery of the eternity of hell.
It is not God Who is relentless.
It is the damned soul which was relentlessly ungrateful towards the infinitely good and merciful God.”
Thanks for your prayers and this post especially. At the time you sent the post I was awakened. Startled confused I looked over at Si and he was sleeping, all paws up in the air so I realized this no home emergency. After awhile, I went back to sleep and awakened 9 hours later with just enough time to make it to confession and Noon Mass. Confession was a must-do for me for some reason and I made it and, humbly and confused I was going to do a number of things but went home instead, sat down, Si on the couch, me in my chair, and web both fell asleep until almost dusk. Strange day. Today’s post makes sense to me as, maybe, the answer to the above. What happened in confession is (what can I say?) a more direct and succinct answer to me and along with what Father said in confession makes me go from knowledge to understanding.
Praise to my parish priest, Cardinal Antonio, and to you, my personal earth-angel. It is so obvious why I have wonderful feeling for you. Lonely, why should I be with you behind me saying, “I’ve got your sixes.” ( military slang for being for watching behind me so we won’t get caught in a trap and implying the trust we have for each with one watching ahead and the other behind. Together we have 360 degrees vision. ( No wonder after all that we just say I’ve got your sixes.)
God blesses you Ana with the protection, help, and intercession of Our Grace-full Mother Mary, Virgin Most Powerful. Amen HH

Such a day Hughie!
You are not 100% well yet – sleep is a necessity and you and the doggie both need this – you know he feels your stress and distress too.
I am happy you are resting – involuntarily perhaps – but our heavenly guardians know what you need.
It is God’s way that we succour and protect each other and be earth-angels in prayer and by His grace to help each other.
Blessed be you in our holy Mother and beloved Lord.
Amen amen and alleluia for Hughie too.
