Power Cut! Again … 😪

Last night and then again this morning, our power was cut. Our power supplier, here in South Africa, calls it “load shedding.”

I am posting what I can in the time available.

  1. It took a power cut to tell me you were South African!
    I hope power is reinstated soon. Life just doesn’t seem to the same without it. I love those pictures of old stone cottages with their ancient kitchens and I love Old World cooking – but to imagine going completely rustic – without power and modern amenities – that’s where the daydreaming ends for me 😀

    1. Absolute agreement Caitlynne.
      But you know, here in SA (thought you knew 🤔) millions – not 100s or 1000s – millions! live daily and all their lives, without power!
      So who am I to complain – except for the posts of course.
      I try very hard to accept it as a penance.
      It’s a long story of why this is happening and if I were to tell you, it would sound racist.
      Now we have a Dutchman controlling our central Power Supplier, and things are slowly improving but he still needs to ‘loadshed’ regularly but at least now, we are warned before it happens.
      P.S. I am a South African of Italian and Spanish background and married to a Dutchman too – a “gemors” as it would be called in Afrikaans.

      1. Tell me when you have the time, Ana. I understand racism pretty well – we are subjected to it every day, it seems.
        The little I know of SA comes from documentaries. Beautiful country with more than its share of problems.
        I did not know of your heritage but had this feeling that family came strong for you… odd turn of phrase…
        Today will be a challenging day here. That’s going up for you, Ana.

      2. Hi Caitlynne – yes this is an amazingly beautiful country – very large (for example the whole British Isles would fit into the Cape Province, 3 times if I remember correctly). We also have beautiful, happy and warm people and because of our history, very resilient people.
        The world has a biased idea about SA in many respects but problems – those we do have – mostly related to the root of evil. those ugly words MONEY and PRIDE!
