Quote/s of the Day – 24 November – St John of the Cross

Quote/s of the Day – 24 November – St John of the Cross OCD (1542-1591) Confessor, Doctor of the Church

Strive to preserve your heart in peace;
let no event of this world, disturb it.

The soul which is quick to turn
to speaking and conversing,
is slow to turn to God
.”

It is best to learn
to silence the faculties
and to cause them to be still,
so that God may speak!

Faith “is like the feet,
wherewith, the soul journeys to God
and love, is the guide
which directs it.

To Saints,
their very slumber,
is a prayer
!”

Passionate Catholic. Being a Catholic is a way of life - a love affair "Religion must be like the air we breathe..."- St John Bosco Prayer is what the world needs combined with the example of our lives which testify to the Light of Christ. This site, which is now using the Traditional Calendar, will mainly concentrate on Daily Prayers, Novenas and the Memorials and Feast Days of our friends in Heaven, the Saints who went before us and the great blessings the Church provides in our Catholic Monthly Devotions. This Site is placed under the Patronage of my many favourite Saints and especially, St Paul. "For the Saints are sent to us by God as so many sermons. We do not use them, it is they who move us and lead us, to where we had not expected to go.” Charles Cardinal Journet (1891-1975) This site adheres to the pre-Vatican II Catholic Church and all her teachings. . PLEASE ADVISE ME OF ANY GLARING TYPOS etc - In June 2021 I lost 100% sight in my left eye and sometimes miss errors. Thank you and I pray all those who visit here will be abundantly blessed. Pax et bonum! 🙏

      1. I was in deep depression too at the time when I first came across St John’s writings on the dark night of the soul. At the time he “came to me”, I had been enduring an abuse situation for a long time, only that I hadn’t realised then that it was abuse. Trying to find myself in St John’s writings, slowly, I spent a lot of time pondering what I was reading. Although, I ultimately realised that my experience was not a dark night of the soul, a sort of relationship had been forged between myself and the saint, so much so, I began to pray to him and to observe his feast day.

One day, I came across a little-known letter St John had written to some Carmelite nuns. In that letter, the phrase Seek counsel stood out. In the days that followed, over and over and over, an unseen chorus resounded in my heart, Seek counsel, Seek counsel, Seek counsel. Not for a second did those unseen voices leave me. I almost went mad wondering who on earth I was to seek advice from.

One day, after Mass, without any intention or prior plan, I found myself with my pastor who was fairly new to the church. Again, without any plan, for the first time in my life, I told Fr about my life and the torture I was undergoing. The unexpected words the priest spoke to me ultimately saved my marriage and my life.

I believe heart and soul it was St John who took me to this priest. Had I not gone that day, our lives would have taken a tragic turn because the abuse had been severe and for too long. This is why I say, St John saved my life.

  1. Amazing Caitlynne – you have such a God-given ability to encounter the sound of the His Voice. The Holy Spirit truly enlightens your mind and heart and allows His own wisdom to enrich your soul.

I am constantly enthralled by your mystical gifts and pray that you use them for your own soul, your family and all of us who meet you within the most beautiful Providence of God.

Never forget that nothing and no meeting is random – we are placed together by God’s beautiful Hand to consider, assist and love each other.

So – may St John of the Cross continue his guidance of your soul by the strength and love of the Holy Spirit. May his prayers intercede evermore in the struggles in your life.

Thank you for enriching my life and for sharing this powerful experience. God bless you and the family Caitlynne! 🙏🤗💘
