Quote/s of the Day – 8 October – Today’s Gospel: Luke 10:25–37 – Monday of the Twenty-seventh week in Ordinary Time, Year B

Speaking of – Seeking : The Good Samaritan

As long as anyone has the means
of doing good to his neighbours
and does not do so,
he shall be reckoned a stranger
to the love of the Lord.

St Irenaeus (130-202) Father of the Churchas long as anyone has the means - st irenaeus - 8 oct 2018 - speaking of seeking the good samaritan

No one has ever been accused for not providing ornaments
but for those who neglect their neighbour,
a hell awaits with an inextinguishable fire
and torment in the company of the demons.
Do not, therefore, adorn the church
and ignore your afflicted brother,
for he is the most precious temple of all.

St John Chrysostom (347-407) Father & Doctor of the Churchno one has ever - st john chrysostom - 16 jan 2018

We must speak to them with our hands
before we speak to them with our lips.

St Peter Claver (1580-1654)we must speak to them with our hands - st peter claver - 23 may 2018

We should strive to keep our hearts open
to the sufferings and wretchedness of other people
and pray continually, that God may grant us,
that spirit of compassion,
which is truly the Spirit of God.

St Vincent de Paul (1581-1660)we should strive to keep our hearts open - st vincent de paul - 8 oct 2018 - speaking of seeking the good samaritan

Since God is perfect in loving man,
man must be perfect in loving his neighbour.

St Vincent Pallotti (1795-1850)since god is perfect - st vincent pallotti - 8 oct 2018 - speaking of seeking the good samaritan

All our religion is but a false religion
and all our virtues are mere illusions
and we ourselves are only hypocrites
in the sight of God,
if we have not that universal charity for everyone –
for the good and for the bad,
for the poor and for the rich
and for all those who do us harm,
as much as those who do us good.

St John Vianney (1786-1859)all our religion is but a false religion - st john vianney - 4 aug 2018

“This parable is a splendid gift for us all and also a task!
To each of us Jesus repeats what He said to the doctor of the Law:
“Go and do likewise” (v. 37).
We are all called to follow the same path of the Good Samaritan,
who is the figure of Christ:
Jesus bent down to us, He became our servant
and thus He has saved us,
so that we too might love
as He loved us, in the same way.”

One Minute Reflection – 8 October – Today’s Gospel: Luke 10:25–37

One Minute Reflection – 8 October – Today’s Gospel: Luke 10:25–37 – Monday of the Twenty-seventh week in Ordinary Time, Year B

“Which of these three, do you think, proved neighbour to the man who fell among the robbers?”   He said, “The one who showed mercy on him.  ” And Jesus said to him, “Go and do likewise.”...Luke 10:36-37which of these three do you think - good samaratan parable - luke 10 36-37 - 8 oct 2018

REFLECTION – “Jesus brings about an unexpected reversal in the traditional concept of neighbour.   The Samaritan is the neighbour and not the wounded man, as we would have expected.   This means that we must not wait till our neighbour appears along our way, perhaps quite dramatically.   It belongs to us to be ready to notice him, to find him. We are all called to be the neighbour!   The problem of the doctor of the law is reversed. From an abstract and academic problem, it becomes a concrete and living problem.   The question to ask is not “Who is my neighbour?” but “Whose neighbour can I be here and now?…
If one of us were to pose Jesus the question “Who is my neighbour?” what would he answer?   He would certainly remind us that our neighbour is not only our fellow countrymen but also those outside our community, not only Christians but Muslims also, not only Catholics but Protestants also.   But he would immediately add that this is not the most important thing.   The most important thing is not to know who my neighbour is but to see whose neighbour I can be here and now, for whom I can be the Good Samaritan.”…Fr Raneiro Cantalamessa – Preacher to the Papal Household (14 July 2007)the most important thing - good samaratan parable luke 10 36-37 - fr raneiro cantalamessa - 8 oct 2018

PRAYER – Lord God and Father, who entrusted the earth to men and each to the other, as one family of man, give us the grace this day, to see Your Face in our neighbour and to seek all who need our help.   Grant us the grace to work faithfully for Your glory and for our neighbour’s good.   May the prayers of St Hugh Canefro who worked tirelessly for his neighbour be a help to us all and may Mary our Holy Mother, keep us ever in her guiding care.   We make our prayer through Christ our Lord, with the Holy Spirit, one God forever, amen.

and the heavens exult when Christ,

is on the altar in the hands of a priest.
O admirable heights and sublime lowliness!
O sublime humility! O humble sublimity!
That the Lord of the universe, God and the Son of God,
so humbles Himself that for our salvation,
He hides Himself under the little form of bread!
Look, brothers, at the humility of God
and pour out your hearts before Him!
Humble yourselves, as well,
that you may be exalted by Him.
Therefore, hold back nothing

Who gives Himself totally to you,
may receive you totally.”let the whole world of mankind tremble - st francis - 4 oct 2018

Thought for the Day – 3 October – Today’s Gospel: Luke 9:57–62

To another he said, “Follow me.”   But he said, “Lord, let me first go and bury my father.” But he said to him, “Leave the dead to bury their own dead but as for you, go and proclaim the kingdom of God.”...Luke 9:59-60

Following and accompanying Christ, staying with Him, demands “coming out of ourselves”, requires us to be outgoing – to come out of ourselves, out of a dreary way of living faith that has become a habit, out of the temptation to withdraw into our own plans which end by shutting out God’s creative action.

God came out of Himself to come among us, He pitched his tent among us to bring to us His mercy that saves and gives hope.
If we want to follow Him and to remain with Him, we too must “go out” with Him to seek the lost sheep, the one that has strayed the furthest.

To come out always!   And to do so with God’s love and tenderness, with respect and with patience, knowing that God takes our hands, our feet, our heart and guides them and makes all our actions fruitful...

Thought for the Day – 1 October – The Memorial of St Thérèse of Lisieux O.C.D. (1873 – 1897) Doctor of the Church

Excerpt from Pope Benedict’s Catechesis on St Thérèse – 6 April 2011

“Today I would like to talk to you about St Thérèse of Lisieux, Thérèse of the Child Jesus and of the Holy Face, who lived in this world for only 24 years, at the end of the 19th century, leading a very simple and hidden life but who, after her death and the publication of her writings, became one of the best-known and best-loved saints. “Little Thérèse” has never stopped helping the simplest souls, the little, the poor and the suffering who pray to her.

I would like to invite you to rediscover this small-great treasure, this luminous comment on the Gospel lived to the full!   The Story of a Soul, in fact, is a marvellous story of Love, told with such authenticity, simplicity and freshness that the reader cannot but be fascinated by it!   But what was this Love that filled Thérèse’s whole life, from childhood to death?   Dear friends, this Love has a Face, it has a Name, it is Jesus!   The Saint speaks continuously of Jesus.

Dear friends, we too, with St Thérèse of the Child Jesus must be able to repeat to the Lord every day that we want to live of love for Him and for others, to learn at the school of the saints to love authentically and totally.  Thérèse is one of the “little” ones of the Gospel who let themselves be led by God to the depths of his Mystery.   A guide for all, especially those who, in the People of God, carry out their ministry as theologians.   With humility and charity, faith and hope, Thérèse continually entered the heart of Sacred Scripture which contains the Mystery of Christ.   And this interpretation of the Bible, nourished by the science of love, is not in opposition to academic knowledge.   The science of the saints, in fact, of which she herself speaks on the last page of her The Story of a Soul, is the loftiest science.

In the Gospel Thérèse discovered above all the Mercy of Jesus, to the point that she said: “To me, He has given His Infinite Mercy and it is in this ineffable mirror, that I contemplate His other divine attributes.   Therein all appear to me radiant with Love.   His Justice, even more perhaps than the rest, seems to me to be clothed with Love” (Ms A, 84r).

In these words she expresses herself in the last lines of The Story of a Soul:   “I have only to open the Holy Gospels and at once I breathe the perfume of Jesus’ life and then I know which way to run;  and it is not to the first place but to the last, that I hasten…. I feel that even had I on my conscience every crime one could commit… my heart broken with sorrow, I would throw myself into the arms of my Saviour Jesus, because I know that He loves the Prodigal Son” who returns to Him. (Ms C, 36v-37r).

“Trust and Love” are therefore the final point of the account of her life, two words, like beacons, that illumined the whole of her journey to holiness, to be able to guide others on the same “little way of trust and love”, of spiritual childhood (cf. Ms C, 2v-3r; LT 226).

Trust, like that of the child who abandons himself in God’s hands, inseparable from the strong, radical commitment of true love, which is the total gift of self for ever, as the Saint says, contemplating Mary:   “Loving is giving all, and giving oneself” (Why I love thee, Mary, P 54/22).

Thus Thérèse points out to us all that Christian life consists in living to the full the grace of Baptism in the total gift of self to the Love of the Father, in order to live like Christ, in the fire of the Holy Spirit, His same love for all the others.”…Pope Benedict XVI

Thought for the Day – 27 September – The Memorial of St Vincent de Paul C.M. (1581-1660)

From “Conferences to the Priests of the Mission”
by St Vincent de Paul (Conference 207).

It is not enough to love God if my neighbour does not love Him.

“Our vocation is to go and enflame the heart of men, to do what the Son of God did, He who brought fire into the world to set it alight with His love.   What else can we wish for, than for it to burn and consume all things?

Thus it is true that I have been sent not only to love God but also to make men love Him.

It is not enough to love God if my neighbour does not love Him.   I must love my neighbour as the image of God and the object of His love and do everything so that in their turn men love their Creator who knows and considers them as His brothers, whom He has saved, I must obtain that they love each other with mutual love, out of love for God who loved them to the point of abandoning to death His very Son.   So that is my duty.   Now, if it is true that we are called to bear God’s love near and far, if we must set nations alight, if our vocation is to go and spread this divine fire in the whole world, if it is so, my brothers, if it is really so, how must I myself burn of this divine fire!

How can we give love to others, if we do not have it among us?   Let us look if it is so, not generally but if each one has it within himself, in due amount, because if love is not on fire in us, if we do not love each other as Jesus Christ loved us and if we do not act as He did, how can we hope to spread such love throughout the world?   You cannot give what you do not have.  The precise duty of charity consists in doing to others what you reasonably would like done to yourself.   Do I really behave towards my neighbour as I wish he would towards me?

Let us look at the Son of God.   Only our Lord can be so taken by love for creatures so much as to leave His Father’s throne and take a body subject to infirmity.  And why?   In order to establish among us, with His word and example, the love of our neighbours. This is the love that led Him to the Cross and accomplished the wonderful work of our redemption.  If we had a little of such love, would we stay here with folded arms?   Oh! no, love can not remain barren, it urges us to obtain salvation and relief for others.”

Prayer for Vocations
By St Vincent de Paul

O Lord,
send good workers to Your Church,
but may they be good!
Send good missionaries
to work in Your vineyard,
labourers, O my God,
such as they ought to be:
utterly detached from themselves,
their own comfort,
and worldly goods.
Let them even be few in number,
provided that they are good.
O Lord, grant this grace
to Your Church.

“Perfection consists in one thing alone,
which is doing the will of God.
For, according to Our Lord’s words,
it suffices for perfection to deny self,
to take up the cross and to follow Him.
Now who denies himself and takes up his cross
and follows Christ better than he who seeks
not to do his own will but always that of God?
Behold, now, how little is needed to become as Saint?

Thought for the Day – 22 September – The Memorial of St Thomas of Villanova O.S.A (1488-1555) “The Father of the Poor”

The new Archbishop was so poor that he was given money for furnishings but he took it to the hospital for the indigent.   On being led to his throne in church, he pushed the silken cushions aside and with tears kissed the ground. His first visit was   to the prison. Two-thirds of his episcopal revenues were annually spent in alms.   He daily fed five hundred needy persons, made himself responsible for the bringing up of the city’s orphans and sheltered neglected foundlings with a mother’s care.

He wore the same habit that he had received in the novitiate, mending it himself.   The canons and domestics were ashamed of him but they could not convince him to change. Several hundred poor came to Thomas’s door each morning and received a meal, drink and money.   When criticised because he was at times being taken advantage of, he replied:

“If there are people who refuse to work, that is for the governor and the police to deal with.   My duty, is to assist and relieve those, who come to my door.”if there are people who refuse - st thomas of villanova - 22 sept 2018

During his eleven years’ episcopate, not one poor maiden was married without an alms from the archbishop.   Spurred by his example, the rich and the selfish became liberal and generous.   And when, on the Nativity of Our Lady, 1555, after one week of illness, Saint Thomas was about to breathe his last, he gave his bed to a poor man and asked to be placed on the floor.

Holy Mass was being celebrated in his presence when after Communion he breathed his last, reciting the words: “Into your hands, O Lord, I commend my spirit.”

It has been said that at his death he was probably the only poor man in his see.

This is our “mark” – this generosity to the poor, this utter self-giving and mercy.   This total trust in Divine Providence.   We are often tempted to tend our image in others’ eyes, without paying sufficient attention to how we look to Christ.   St Thomas still urges us to rethink our priorities.

We will be known by our fruits!

One Minute Reflection – 13 September – Today’s Gospel – Luke 6:27–38

One Minute Reflection – 13 September – Today’s Gospel – Luke 6:27–38 – Thursday of the Twenty-third week in Ordinary Time, Year B and the Memorial of St John Chrysostom (347-407) Father & Doctor of the Church

“Judge not and you will not be judged;  condemn not and you will not be condemned; forgive, and you will be forgiven;  give, and it will be given to you;  good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap.   For the measure you give, will be the measure you get back.”...Luke 6:37-38judge not and you will not be judged - luke 6 37-38 - 13 sept 2018

REFLECTION – “O envious one, you injure yourself more than he whom you would injure and the sword with which you wound will recoil and wound yourself.   What harm did Cain do to   Abel? Contrary to his intention he did him the greatest good, for he caused him to pass to a better and a blessed life and he himself was plunged into an abyss of woe.   In what did Esau injure Jacob?   Did not his envy prevent him from being enriched in the place in which he lived and, losing the inheritance and the blessing of his father, did he not die a miserable death?   What harm did the brothers of Joseph do to Joseph, whose envy went so far as to wish to shed his blood?   Were they not driven to the last extremity and well-nigh perishing with hunger, whilst their brother reigned all through Egypt?   It is ever thus;  the more you envy your brother, the greater good you confer upon him.   God, who sees all, takes the cause of the innocent in hand and, irritated by the injury you inflict, deigns to raise up him whom you wish to lower and will punish you to the full extent of your crime.   If God usually punishes those who rejoice at the misfortunes of their enemies, how much more will He punish those who, excited by envy, seek to do an injury to those who have never injured them?”…Saint John Chrysostomit is ever thus the more you envy your brother - st john chrysostom - 13 sept 2018

“It will do us good today to think of an enemy – I think we all have someone who has hurt us or who wants to hurt us or who tries to hurt us.   Ah, this!   The mafia prayer is:   “You will pay for it”, the Christian prayer is:   “Lord, bless him and teach me to love him”…Pope Francis – Santa Marta, 19 June 2018it will do us good today - pope francis 13 sept 2018

PRAYER – Lord God, strength of those who hope in You, by Your will, St John Chrysostom became renowned in the Church, for his astounding eloquence and his forbearance in persecution.   Grant that we may be enriched by his teaching and thus grow in sanctity, to follow the commandments You set forth in Your Word, Your Son who is our Saviour and Redeemer.   By the prayers of St John Chrysostom, may we attain the place You have prepared for us.   We make our prayer through Jesus Christ with the Holy Spirit, one God, forever amen.st john chrysostom pray for us - 13 sept 2018

One Minute Reflection – 5 September – Today’s Gospel: Luke 4:38-44

One Minute Reflection – 5 September – Today’s Gospel: Luke 4:38-44 – Wednesday of the Twenty-second week in Ordinary Time and the Memorial of St Mother Teresa (1910-1997)

Now when the sun was setting, all those who had any that were sick with various diseases brought them to him and he laid his hands on every one of them and healed them….Luke 4:40

REFLECTION – “Having come to earth to proclaim and to realise the salvation of the whole man and of all people, Jesus shows a particular predilection for those who are wounded in body and in spirit: the poor, the sinners, the possessed, the sick, the marginalised.   Thus, He reveals Himself as a doctor both of souls and of bodies, the Good Samaritan of man.   He is the true Saviour:  Jesus saves, Jesus cures, Jesus heals.   Each one of us is called to bear the light of the Word of God and the power of grace to those who suffer and to those who assist them — family, doctors, nurses — so that the service to the sick might always be better accomplished with more humanity, with generous dedication, with evangelical love, with tenderness.”… Pope Francis – Angelus, 8 February 2015and he laid his hands - he eveals himself as a doctor both of souls and bodies - pope francis 5 sept 2018

“Not all of us can do great things.   But we can do small things with great love…..God doesn’t require us to succeed, He only requires that we try…….I can do things you cannot, you can do things I cannot; together we can do great things.” ….St Mother Teresa of Calcuttanot all of us can do great things - and immediately she got and served luke 4 39 - st mother teresa 2018

PRAYER – Heavenly Father, help us to be holy in the way that You have laid out for all of us.   Let us carry out the duties of our state in life to the full and so attain the holiness proper to each one. May the prayers of St Mother Teresa assist us in using the gifts You have been given us, for the Glory of God.   We make our prayer through our Lord, Jesus Christ with the Holy Spirit, one God, forever, amen.st-mother-teresa-pray-for-us-5 sept 2017

Thought for the Day – 2 September – Today’s Gospel: Mark 7:1–23

Thought for the Day – 2 September – Today’s Gospel: Mark 7:1–23 – Twenty-second Sunday in Ordinary Time, Year B

‘This people honours me with their lips but their heart is far from me…”…Mark 7:6

“The interior life is primordial… The active life is the consequence of the interior life and has no value unless it depends upon it.   We should like to do everything to the best of our ability, perfectly.   But if it isn’t linked to our interior life it is to no purpose.   All the value of our life and activity stems from our interior life, the life of love for God and the Virgin Mary, the Immaculata – not in theories or sweetness but in the practice of a love that consists in the union of our will with the will of the Immaculate Virgin.

Above and over all we must deepen this interior life.   If it is truly a case of spiritual life then supernatural means are required.   Prayer, prayer and prayer alone is what is needed to undertake the interior life and its flowering. Interior recollection is necessary.

Let us not be anxious about unnecessary things but gently, peacefully, let us try to preserve recollection of spirit and be attentive to God’s grace.   That is why silence helps us.”…St Maximilian Kolbe (1894-1941) Martyrprayer prayer and prayer alone - st maximillian kolbe - 2 sept 2018

“So let me ask you – are there moments when you place yourself quietly in the Lord’s presence, when you calmly spend time with Him, when you bask in His gaze?   Do you let His fire inflame your heart?   Unless you let Him warm you more and more with His love and tenderness, you will not catch fire.   How will you then be able to set the hearts of others on fire by your words and witness?

Open House….Conversations with …. 30 August

Little weekly reflections from those ‘minds alive’, our friends and intercessors waiting on our arrival.

Mother, how do we live by example?

Thomas Malcolm Muggeridge was a British journalist and media celebrity who did not care much about God and religion.   But…he saw compassion actualised before his very eyes through the person of Mother Teresa and that made him do something he had sworn he would never do – he became a Catholic!
Muggeridge had an assignment to write about Mother Teresa.   Travelling to India, he thought the trip was just the usual work but the amazing thing was, in the course of his talks and days of observation of the little nun, he experienced a complete conversion of his heart, his mind, his soul, his very being.
He confessed:  “Words cannot express how much I owe her, she showed me Christianity in action.   She showed me the power of love.   She showed me how one loving person can start a tidal wave of love that can spread to the entire world!”

“You must first learn to forget yourself

so that you can dedicate yourself to God and to neighbour alike!”

One Minute Reflection – 23 August – Today’s Gospel: Matthew 22:1-14 and the Memorial of St Rose of Lima (1586-1617)

One Minute Reflection – 23 August -Today’s Gospel: Matthew 22:1-14 and the Memorial of St Rose of Lima (1586-1617)

“But when the king came in to look at the guests, he saw there a man who had no wedding garment and he said to him, ‘Friend, how did you get in here without a wedding garment?’...Matthew 22:11-12friend how did you get in here - matthew 22 12

REFLECTION – “What is that “wedding garment” then? … The wedding garment” is such charity as this.   “Though I speak with the tongues of men and of Angels and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass and a tinkling cymbal.”   Tongues have come in alone and it is said to them, “How came ye in hither not having a wedding garment?” “Though,” said he, “I have the gift of prophecy and understand all mysteries and all knowledge and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains and have not charity, I am nothing.”   See, these are the miracles of men who very often have not “the wedding garment.”   “Though,” he says,” I have all these and have not Christ, I am nothing.” … If then I have not charity, though I bestow alms freely upon the poor, though I have come to the confession of Christ’s Name even unto blood and fire, these things may be done even through the love of glory and so are vain.
… For “the wedding garment” is taken in honour of the union, the union, that is, of the Bridegroom to the Bride.  You know the Bridegroom – it is Christ. You know the Bride – it is the Church.   Pay honour to the Bride, pay honour to the Bridegroom  . If you pay due honour to them both, you will be their children.   Therefore in this make progress.   Love the Lord and so learn to love yourselves, that when by loving the Lord, you shall have loved yourselves, you may securely love your neighbour as yourselves.
…So then, have faith with love.   This is the “wedding garment.”…St Augustine (354-430) Father & Doctorso then have faith with love this then is the wed garment - st augustine - 23 aug 2018

“Thus, then, the obedient man, with the light of faith, in the truth burning in the furnace of charity … receives his end from Me, his Creator.”…St Catherine of Siena (1347-1380) Doctor of the Churchthus then, the obedient man - st catherine of siena - 23 aug 2018

PRAYER – “God our Father, for love of You, St Rose of Lima left the world and gave herself to a life of penitence, austerity and charity.   Help us by her prayers, so to follow the path of life on earth, in complete love of You and thus of Your children, that we may obtain the fulness of joy in Your presence in heaven and be clothed fit for the wedding feast.   We make our prayer through Christ our Lord, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God forever, amen.st-rose-of-lima-pray-for-us-23 aug 2017

Thought for the Day – 20 August – The Memorial of St Maria de Mattias A.S.C. (1805-1866)

“The spirit of this holy work is all love. “

St Maria de Mattias wrote:

“For the triumph of His mercy and to show His infinite love for us, our divine Redeemer, Jesus Christ shed all His precious Blood with great suffering and humiliation, as price of salvation and of glory.   He gave it all, He gave it for all and He does not stop giving it…

This lowly Congregation which lives and labours under the glorious title of the most precious Blood of Jesus Christ, must itself take on the shape and pattern of a living image of that divine love with which it was shed and of which it was and is, a symbol, expression, measure and pledge.

The spirit of this holy work is all love.   We have carved this word in our minds and on our hearts.   I repeat: Love! Love toward God and our dear neighbour…

What a beautiful consolation it is to see spouses of the divine Lamb, the Adorers of His most precious Blood, motivated by one sole will, the will of God, forming but one heart and one soul and thus united, making the heavens resound, with a hymn of thanksgiving, to the infinite goodness of God, while at the same time, they offer the Blood of His Son for the reconciliation of heaven with earth, of earth with heaven…”

“Are you troubled?
Think but of Jesus,
speak but the name of Jesus,
the clouds disperse
and peace descends anew from heaven.
Have you fallen into sin?
So that you fear death?
..invoke the name of Jesus
and you will soon feel life returning.
No obduracy of the soul, no weakness,
no coldness of heart can resist this holy name –
there is no heart which will not soften
and open in tears at this holy name.”are you troubled - st bernard - 20 aug 2018

“Let us not imagine that we obscure
the glory of the Son by the great praise
we lavish on the Mother –

Thoughts for the Day – 18 August – – The Memorial of St Alberto Hurtado S.J. (1901-1952)

Lessons from the writings of St Alberto,

‘The Man of Action’ (1947)

“I hold that every poor man, every vagrant, every beggar,
is Christ carrying His cross.
And as Christ, we must love and help him.”

“I must always consider myself a servant of a great work.
And because my role is that of a servant, I will not reject the humblest tasks, modest tasks in administration, even the cleaning…
Many aspire to have quiet time to think, read, prepare great things
but there are tasks that all reject, may these be my preferences.
Everything must be accomplished if the great work is to be realised.”

“Humility consists in inserting yourself in your true place.
Before people, not by considering myself the least among them, because I do not believe this;
before God, by recognising continually, my absolute dependence with respect to Him
and that any superiority I might have, in the sight of others, comes from Him.”

“Better to have the humility to begin great tasks with the danger of failing,
than to reduce one’s goal out of pride in order to guarantee success.”

Quote of the Day – 18 August – The Memorial of St Alberto Hurtado S.J. (1901-1952)

“Christ roams through our streets
in the person of so many
of the suffering poor, sick and dispossessed
and people thrown out of their miserable slums.
Christ huddled under bridges,
in the person of so many children
who lack someone to call father,
who have been deprived for many years,
without a mother’s kiss on their foreheads…
Christ is without a home!
Shouldn’t we want to give Him one,
those of us who have the joy of a comfortable home,
plenty of good food,
the means to educate
and assure the future of our children?”
