Quote/s of the Day – 3 July – Beloved Sacrament!

Quote/s of the Day – 3 July – Within the Octave of the Sacred Heart and the Feast of the Eucharistic Heart of Jesus

Give me Thyself, O My God
By St Augustine (354-430)
Father and Doctor of Grace

Give me Thyself, O my God,
give Thyself to me.
Behold I love Thee
and if my love is too weak a thing,
grant me to love Thee more strongly.
I cannot measure my love, to know
how much it falls short of being sufficient
but let my soul hasten to Thine embrace
and never be turned away,
until it is hidden in the secret shelter
of Thine presence.
This only do I know,
that it is not good for me
when Thou art not with me,
when Thou art only outside me.
I want Thee in my very self.
All the plenty in the world
which is not my God,
is utter want!
Amen

I understand that, each time
we contemplate the Host,
with desire and devotion,
in which is hidden
Christ’s Eucharistic Body,
we increase our merits in Heaven
and secure special joys to be ours later
in the Beatific Vision of God.

O Sacred Heart of Jesus,
Fountain of Eternal Life,
Thine Heart is a glowing furnace of Love.
Thou art my Refuge
and my Sanctuary.

St Gertrude the Great (1256-1302)

The faith I have, when I am in the
Presence of the Blessed Sacrament,
is so strong, I find it impossible
to express what I feel…
When the time comes to leave,
I must force myself to overcome, the inclination
to prolong my stay with Jesus.”

St Anthony Mary Claret (1807-1870)

Our Morning Offering – 12 June – O Heart of Jesus! By St Gertrude

Our Morning Offering – 12 June – “The Month of the Sacred Heart of Jesus”

O Heart of Jesus!
By St Gertrude the Great (1256-1302)

Sanctity of the Heart of Jesus,
consecrate my heart;
Providence of the Heart of Jesus,
watch over my heart;
Unchangeableness of the Heart of Jesus,
strengthen my heart;
Purity of the Heart of Jesus,
purify my heart;
Obedience of the Heart of Jesus,
subjugate my heart;
Amiability of the Heart of Jesus,
make Thyself known to my heart;
Divine attractions of the Heart of Jesus,
captivate my heart;
Riches of the Heart of Jesus,
do ye suffice for my heart;
Floods of grace and blessing
which flow from the Heart of Jesus,
inundate my heart.
O Heart of Jesus! be Thou my joy,
my peace, my repose in this world
and in the next.
O Heart of Jesus! adored in Heaven,
Invoked on earth, feared in hell,
Reign over all hearts,
Reign throughout all ages,
Reign forever in celestial glory.
Amen

Our Morning Offering – 8 April – O Most Merciful Lord, Engrave Thy Wounds Upon My Heart by St Gertrude

Our Morning Offering – 8 April – Tuesday in Passion Week

O Most Merciful Lord,
Engrave Thy Wounds Upon My Heart
By St Gertrude the Great (1256-1302)

O Lord Jesus Christ, Son of the living God,
grant that I may aspire to Thee
with my whole heart, with yearning desire
and with a thirsting soul,
seeking only Thy sweetness and Thy delights,
so that my whole mind
and all that is within me,
may ardently sigh for Thee,
Who art our true Beatitude.
O most merciful Lord,
engrave Thy Wounds upon my heart
with Thy most Precious Blood
that I may read in them,
both Thy Grief and Thy Love.
May the memory of Thy Wounds
ever remain in my inmost heart,
to excite my compassion for Thy sufferings
and to increase my love for Thee.
Grant too that I may despise all creatures
so that my heart may delight in Thee alone.
Amen.

Saint of the Day – 6 December – Saint Gertrude the Elder (c560-649) Widow, Abbess,

Saint of the Day – 6 December – Saint Gertrude the Elder (c560-649) Widow, Abbess, Founder and the 1st Abbess of Hamage Abbey in the North of France. It was a Monastery of Nuns, dedicated to Saint Peter and Saint Eusebia. Also known as – Gertrude de Cambrai, Gertrude of Hamage, Gertrude of Hamaye.

Hamage Abbey

The daughter of a nobleman of Douai, France, Gertrude married the nobleman Rigomer. Widowed at an early age, she devoted herself to the education of her three sons, one of whom was to be venerated as a Saint and Martyr, St Adalbald (Died 652).

Following the settlement of her sons, Gertrude withdrew from the world to live at an Oratory in Hamage, where she devoted herself to religious exercises and acts of charity. Here she was joined in her life of piety by her grand-daughter Eusebia.

Gertrude bravely endured the sorrow of learning that her son Adalbald had been Martyred. Adalbald’s widow, Rictrude (c 614–688) also became a Saint.

At Hamage Gertrude founded and became the 1st Abbess of a Convent, where she trained her grand-daughter for religious life before dying and leaving the government of the Convent to her.
