Our Morning Offering – 17 March – Christ be Near

Our Morning Offering – 17 March – Tuesday of the Third Week of Lent

Excerpt from St Patrick’s Breastplate – Christ be Near
St Patrick (c 386 – 461)christ be near - st patrick - 17 march 2020

Christ be near, at either hand,
Christ behind, before me stand,
Christ with me, where’er I go,
Christ around, above, below.

Christ be in my heart and mind,
Christ within my soul enshrined,
Christ control, my wayward heart,
Christ abide and ne’er depart.

Christ my life and only way,
Christ my lantern, night and day,
Christ be my unchanging friend,
guide and shepherd to the end.

We have this prayer and his own story in one of the few certainly authentic writings of Patrick – his Confessio, which is above all an act of homage to God for having called Patrick, unworthy sinner, to the apostolate.

This site, which is now using the Traditional Calendar, will mainly concentrate on Daily Prayers, Novenas and the Memorials and Feast Days of our friends in Heaven, the Saints who went before us and the great blessings the Church provides in our Catholic Monthly Devotions. This Site is placed under the Patronage of my many favourite Saints and especially, St Paul. "For the Saints are sent to us by God as so many sermons. 1. Dear Ana,

Greetings from the land of St Patrick, where we are all helping each other by staying away from each other! Strange times!

However, thanks to the gifts of modern communication we can all stay in touch and even though our churches are closed we can attend Mass daily by video link.

The work that you are doing, in spite of the huge difficulties you struggle with, is so important.

When Patrick experienced great isolation on the hillside, he prayed as many as a hundred times a day. Let us in our isolation follow his example.

    1. Beautifully said dear Anne Marie – strange and dare I say it “evil” times. It feels like something even bigger much much bigger will be happening to this world of ours soon.

Thank you for the encouragement – here in SA at least we still have Mass but fears of no food in the supermarkets. It doesn’t worry the poor – it is the rich you cannot spend thousands and are throwing fits!

Let us pray as our beloved St Patrick did. One of the excerpts of his breastplate is my mantra and so I ask him too for help.

Thank you for your wonderful words.
