I very much enjoyed reading the account of the life of Matt Talbot. The general outline of his life is well known to me, as my mother told me about him when I was a child. You have added detail to my knowledge. He is one of a number of lay Dubliners who were sort of contemporaries and whose causes for veneration/beatification are under consideration, including Frank Duff and Edel Quinn. Matt Talbot is such an important example for us in Dublin where addiction is such a scourge. Sadly, the very parishes mentioned in your account are among the worst hit. Matt Talbot, pray for us…

Oh how lovely Anne Marie that he is part of your life! I have a great reverence for him – I admire his stoicism and fortitude. Also, his great Eucharistic devotion and the fact that he shared his own experiences in works of social reform.
Would it not have been those same Parishes – nearby where he lived – would always have been an area possibly of social deprivation and therefore, of alcoholism?
