Holy Trinity, Whom I Adore
By St Elizabeth of the Trinity

O my God, Trinity whom I adore, let me entirely forget myself that I may abide in You, still and peaceful as if my soul were already in eternity; let nothing disturb my peace nor separate me from You, O my unchanging God but that each moment may take me further into the depths of Your mystery! Pacify my soul! Make it Your heaven, Your beloved home and place of Your repose; let me never leave You there alone but may I be ever attentive, ever alert in my faith, ever adoring and all given up to Your creative action.

O my beloved Christ, crucified for love, would that I might be for You a spouse of Your heart! I would anoint You with glory, I would love You – even unto death! Yet I sense my frailty and ask You to adorn me with Yourself; identify my soul with all the movements of Your soul, submerge me, overwhelm me, substitute Yourself in me that my life may become but a reflection of Your life. Come into me as Adorer, Redeemer and Saviour.

O Eternal Word, Word of my God, would that I might spend my life listening to You, would that I might be fully receptive to learn all from You. In all darkness, all loneliness, all weakness, may I ever keep my eyes fixed on You and abide under Your great light; O my Beloved Star, fascinate me so that I may never be able to leave Your radiance.

O Consuming Fire, Spirit of Love, descend into my soul and make all in me as an incarnation of the Word, that I may be to Him a super-added humanity wherein He renews His mystery; and You O Father, bestow Yourself and bend down to Your little creature, seeing in her only Your beloved Son in whom You are well pleased.

O my `Three’, my All, my Beatitude, infinite Solitude, Immensity in whom I lose myself, I give myself to You as a prey to be consumed; enclose Yourself in me that I may be absorbed in You so as to contemplate in Your light the abyss of Your Splendour!holy trinity whom I adore - st elizabeth of the trinity - 8 nov 2017

O Love Eternal!
By St Francis De Sales (1567-1622) Doctor of the Church

O love eternal,
my soul needs and chooses You eternally!
Ah, come Holy Spirit,
and inflame our hearts with Your love!
To love – or to die!
To die – and to love!
To die to all other love
in order to live in Jesus’ love,
so that we may not die eternally.
But that we may live in Your eternal love,
O Saviour of our souls,
we eternally sing,
Live, Jesus!
Jesus, I love!
Live, Jesus, whom I love!
Jesus, I love,
Jesus who lives and reigns
forever and ever.

O Holy Father, Who Dwell in Heaven
By Blessed Columba Marmion
(1858-1923)

O Holy Father, who dwell in heaven,
we are Your children since You do will
to be called our Father.
May Your Name be hallowed, honoured, glorified!
May Your perfections be praised and exalted
more and more upon the earth!
May we manifest in ourselves, by our works,
the splendour of Your grace!
Extend, then, Your reign –
may Your kingdom ever increase,
this kingdom, which is also that of Your Son,
since You have made Him the head of it.
May Your Son be truly the King of our Souls
and may we testify to His Kingship over us,
by perfect accomplishment of Your Will.
May we, like Him, ever seek to adhere to You,
by fulfilling Your good pleasure,
Your eternal designs for us, so as to be like Jesus
in all things and through Him,
worthy children of Your Love!

A Prayer Before Holy Communion
By St Francis de Sales

Divine Saviour,
we come to Your sacred table
to nourish ourselves,
not with bread but with Yourself,
true Bread of eternal life.
Help us daily to make a good
and perfect meal
of this divine food.
Let us be continually refreshed
by the perfume of Your kindness and goodness.
May the Holy Spirit fill us with His Love.
Meanwhile, let us prepare a place
for this holy food by emptying our hearts.

I am Your Instrument, Lord
By St Charles Borromeo

Almighty God,
You have generously made known
to human beings the mysteries of
Your life through Jesus Christ Your Son,
in the Holy Spirit.
Enlighten my mind to know these mysteries
which Your Church treasures and teaches.
Move my heart to love them
and my will to live in accord with them.
Give me the ability to teach this Faith to others,
without pride, without ostentation
and without personal gain.
Let me realise that I am simply Your instrument,
for bringing others to the
knowledge of the wonderful things
You have done for all Your creatures.
Help me to be faithful to the task,
that You have entrusted to me.

Psalm 130 (129) The De Profundis

Out of the depths I cry to You, O Lord;
Lord, hear my voice.
Let Your ears be attentive to my voice in supplication.
If You, O Lord, mark iniquities, Lord, who can stand?
But with You is forgiveness, that You may be revered.
I trust in the Lord;
my soul trusts in His word.
My soul waits for the Lord,
more than sentinels wait for the dawn.
More than sentinels wait for the dawn,
let Israel wait for the Lord,
For with the Lord is kindness
and with Him is plenteous redemption;
And He will redeem Israel from all their iniquities.de profundis - 2 nov 2017

The De Profundis is the common name for the 130th Psalm (in the modern numbering system; in the traditional numbering system, it is the 129th Psalm).   The Psalm takes its name from the first two words of the psalm in its Latin phrasing (see below).   This Psalm has a varied history of usage in many traditions.

In Catholicism, the rule of St. Benedict, established around 530 CE, assigned the De Profundis to be recited at the beginning of the vespers service on Tuesday, followed by Psalm 131.

It is a penitential psalm that is also sung in commemoration of the dead and it is also a good psalm to express our sorrow as we prepare for the Sacrament of Confession.

For Catholics, every time a believer recites the De Profundis, they are said to receive a partial indulgence (the remission of a portion of punishment for sin).

The De Profundis also has a variety of uses in Judaism. It is recited as part of the liturgy for the high holidays, for example and is traditionally recited as a prayer for the sick.

The De Profundis has also appeared in world literature, in the works of the Spanish author Federico García Lorca and in a long letter by Oscar Wilde to his lover.

The Psalm has frequently been set to music, with many of the melodies written by some the world’s most renowned composers, including Bach, Handel, Liszt, Mendelssohn, Mozart, as well as modern composers such as Vangelis and Leonard Bernstein.

THE 130TH PSALM IN LATIN
De profundis clamavi ad te, Domine;
Domine, exaudi vocem meam. Fiant aures tuæ intendentes
in vocem deprecationis meæ.
Si iniquitates observaveris, Domine, Domine, quis sustinebit?
Quia apud te propitiatio est; et propter legem tuam sustinui te, Domine.
Sustinuit anima mea in verbo ejus:
Speravit anima mea in Domino.
A custodia matutina usque ad noctem, speret Israël in Domino.
Quia apud Dominum misericordia, et copiosa apud eum redemptio.
Et ipse redimet Israël ex omnibus iniquitatibus ejus.

Prayer for the Grace of Devotion
By Thomas à Kempis

O Lord, my God,
You are my all and every good.
And what am I, that I should presume
to address You?
I am the poorest of Your servants
and a wretched worm,
far more poor and worthless
than I can ever realise or express.
Yet, Lord, remember that I am nothing,
I have nothing and can do nothing.
You alone are good, just and holy;
You can do all things, fill all things,
bestow all things,
leaving only the wicked empty-handed.
Remember Your mercies, Lord
and fill my heart with Your grace,
since it is Your will that none of Your works
should be worthless.
How can I endure this life of sorrows,
unless You strengthen me
with Your mercy and grace?
Do not turn Your face from me;
do not delay Your coming,
nor withdraw Your consolation from me,
lest my soul become like a waterless desert.
Teach me, O Lord, to do Your will;
teach me to live worthily
and humbly in Your sight;
for You are my wisdom, who know me truly
and who knew me before the world was made
and before I had my being. Amenprayer for the grace of devotion by thomas a kempis - 25 oct 2017

Thanksgiving for the Eucharist
By St Pope John Paul II

For our paschal lamb,
Christ, has been sacrificed.
Therefore, let us celebrate the feast!
O Christ the Saviour,
we give You thanks
for Your redeeming sacrifice,
the only hope of men!
O Christ the Saviour,
we give You thanks
for the Eucharistic breaking of bread,
which You instituted,
in order to really meet, Your brothers,
in the course of the centuries!
O Christ the Saviour,
put into the hearts of the baptised,
the desire to offer themselves with You
and to commit themselves,
for the salvation of their brothers!
You who are really present
in the Blessed Sacrament,
spread Your blessings abundantly
on Your people…Amenprayer of thanksgiving for the eucharist - st john paul - 22 oct 2017

Thought for the Day – 19 October – The Memorial of Blessed Jerzy Popiełuszko (1947-1984)

Fr Jerzy Popiełuszko, a priest and martyr,….exercised his generous and courageous ministry beside all those who were working for freedom, for the defence of life and for its dignity. His work at the service of goodness and truth was a sign of contradiction for the regime governing Poland at the time. Love of the Heart of Christ led him to give his life and his witness was the seed of a new springtime in the Church and in society.
If we look at history, we can note how many pages of authentic spiritual and social renewal were written with the crucial contribution of Catholic priests, motivated solely by passion for the Gospel and for human beings and for their true freedom, both religious and civil.
How many initiatives of integral human promotion have been born from the intuition of a priestly heart! (13 June 2010, Pope Benedict XVI)
And so, let us pray for all our priests:

Pope Benedict’s Prayer for Priests

LORD JESUS CHRIST,
Eternal High Priest, You offered Yourself to the
Father on the altar of the Cross and through the
outpouring of the Holy Spirit gave Your priestly
people a share in Your redeeming sacrifice.
Hear our prayer for the sanctification of our priests.
Grant that all who are ordained to the ministerial
priesthood may be ever more conformed to You,
the divine Master.
May they preach the
Gospel with pure heart and clear conscience.
Let them be shepherds according to Your own Heart,
single- minded in service to You and to the Church
and shining examples of a holy, simple and joyful life.
Through the prayers of the Blessed Virgin Mary,
Your Mother and ours, draw all priests and the flocks
entrusted to their care to the fullness of eternal life where
You live and reign with the Father and the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever.
AMEN

Mary, let me love your Jesus
By St Ildephonsus (607-667)

Virgin Mary, hear my prayer:
through the Holy Spirit
you became the Mother of Jesus;
from the Holy Spirit may I too have Jesus.
Through the Holy Spirit
your flesh conceived Jesus;
through the same Spirit
may my soul receive Jesus.
Through the Holy Spirit
you were able to know Jesus,
to possess Jesus,
and to bring Him into the world.
Through the Holy Spirit
may I too come to know your Jesus.
Imbued with the Spirit,
Mary, you could say:
“I am the handmaid of the Lord,
be it done unto me according to your word”;
in the Holy Spirit,
lowly as I am,
let me proclaim the great truths about Jesus.
In the Spirit you now adore Jesus as Lord
and look on Him as Son;
in the same spirit,
Mary, let me love your Jesus.

I am His; I am yours, my good Mother!
By Blessed John Henry Newman

O Mother of Jesus
and my Mother, let me dwell with you,
cling to you and love you with ever-increasing love.
I promise the honour, love and trust of a child.
Give me a mother’s protection,
for I need your watchful care.
You know better than any other,
the thoughts and desires of the Sacred Heart.
Keep constantly before my mind,
the same thoughts, the same desires,
that my heart may be filled with zeal
for the interests of the
Sacred Heart of your Divine Son.
Instill in me a love of all that is noble,
that I may no longer be easily turned to selfishness.
Help me, dearest Mother,
to acquire the virtues that God wants of me:
to forget myself always, to work solely for Him,
without fear of sacrifice.
I shall always rely on your help to be,
what Jesus wants me to be.
I am His; I am yours, my good Mother!
Give me each day your holy and maternal blessing,
until my last evening on earth,
when your Immaculate Heart will present me,
to the heart of Jesus in heaven,
there to love and bless you
and your divine Son for all eternity. Amen

Teach Me Your Ways
Pedro Arrupe, S.J.

Teach me Your way of looking at people:
as You glanced at Peter after his denial,
as You penetrated the heart of the rich young man
and the hearts of Your disciples.

I would like to meet You as You really are,
since Your image changes those with whom You
come into contact.
Remember John the Baptist’s first meeting with You?
And the centurion’s feeling of unworthiness?
And the amazement of all those who saw miracles
and other wonders?

How You impressed Your disciples,
the rabble in the Garden of Olives,
Pilate and his wife
and the centurion at the foot of the cross. . . .

I would like to hear and be impressed
by Your manner of speaking,
listening, for example, to Your discourse in the
synagogue in Capharnaum
or the Sermon on the Mount where Your audience
felt You “taught as one who has authority.”

Teach me Your way O Lord!

But without faith it is impossible to please him,
for anyone who approaches God must believe
that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him....Hebrews 11:6

REFLECTION – “Oh that we could take that simple view of things, as to feel that the one thing which lies before us is to please God!   What gain is it to please the world, to please the great, even to please those whom we love, compared with this?   What gain is it to be applauded, admired, courted, followed, compared with this one aim, of not being disobedient to a heavenly vision?   What can this world offer comparable with that insight into spiritual things, that keen faith, that heavenly peace, that high sanctity, that everlasting righteousness, that hope of glory, which they have who in sincerity love and follow our Lord Jesus Christ?”…Blessed John Henry Newmanoh that we could take, that simple view - bl john henry - 9 oct 2017

Be with Me Today, O Lord
By Blessed John Henry Newman (1801-1890)

May all I do today begin with You, O Lord.
Plant dreams and hopes within my soul,
revive my tired spirit: be with me today.
May all I do today continue with Your help, O Lord.
Be at my side and walk with me:
Be my support today.
May all I do today reach far and wide, O Lord.
My thoughts, my work, my life:
make them blessings for Your kingdom;
let them go beyond today,O God.
Today is new unlike any other day,
for God makes each day different.
Today God’s everyday grace,
falls on my soul like abundant seed,
though I may hardly see it.
Today is one of those days
Jesus promised to be with me,
a companion on my journey,
And my life today, if I trust Him,
has consequences unseen.
My life has a purpose:
I have a mission…I am a link in a chain,
a bond of connection between persons.
God has not created me for naught…”
Therefore I will trust Him.
Whatever, wherever I am,
I can never be thrown away.
God does nothing in vain.

St Francis of Assisi

Most High, glorious God,
enlighten the darkness of my heart
and give me
true faith,
certain hope,
and perfect charity,
sense and knowledge,
Lord, that I may carry out,
Your holy and true command.  AmenPRAYER BEFORE THE CRUCIFIX SAN DAMIANO.2

Let me Love You Lord
By St Thérèse of Lisieux

Divine Jesus,
Listen to my prayer.
By my love I want to make You rejoice.
You know well,
I want to please You alone.
Deign to grant my most ardent desire.
I accept the trials of this sad exile
To delight You and to console Your heart.
But change all my works to love,
O my Spouse, my Beloved Saviour.
It’s Your love Jesus, that I crave
it’s Your love that has to transform me.
Put in my heart Your consuming flame,
And I’ll be able to bless You and love You
As they do in Heaven.
I’ll love You with that very love.
With which You have loved me,
Jesus Eternal Word.
Divine Saviour, at the end of my life
come fetch me without the shadow of delay.
Ah! show me Your infinite tenderness
And the sweetness of Your Divine gaze.
With love, Oh! may Your voice call me,
Saying: come, all is forgiven.
Come rest on My heart, My faithful spouse,
you have greatly loved Me.

O Lord, show Your mercy to me
By St Jerome

O Lord, show Your mercy to me
and gladden my heart.
I am like the man on the way to Jericho
who was overtaken by robbers,
wounded and left for dead.
O Good Samaritan,
come to my aid.
I am like the sheep that went astray.
O Good Shepherd,
seek me out and bring me home
in accord with Your will.
Let me dwell in Your house
all the days of my life
and praise You for ever and ever
with those who are there. Ameno lord, show your mercy to me - st jerome - 30 sept 2017

Morning Offering of St Francis de Sales

My God, I give You this day.
I offer You, now,
all the good that I shall do
and I promise to accept
for love of You,
all of the difficulty that I shall meet.
Help me to conduct myself during this day,
in a manner pleasing to You, Amen.

Lord, Teach me How to Pray
St Vincent de Paul

Oh Lord,
You selected the poor
and simple people to be Your Apostles.
Look upon Your poor servant
kneeling before You now.
I recognise that I am simple and poor too.
Dear Lord, please teach me how to pray
as You taught Your disciples
upon their humble request.
If it pleases You in Your goodness
to grant me that grace,
I shall be able to pray well
and much better
than I could ever could hope for
if left to my own efforts.
Lord, I trust that You will bless me
with the fulfillment of this request.
