Apologies – No Power Again!

So sorry for the sparsity of posts today and even dearest Cardinal Bacci’s advice, on ‘The Order of the Day’ doesn’t help too much, when we suffer 3 periods per day of 2 1/2 hours each, of this thing called load-shedding!

His advice for me, means we have to adapt to suit load-shedding!   I will try harder but, sadly, we are only advised of the planned power cuts each morning – oftentimes too late to pre-plan.

God bless you all and please add South Africa to your planned daily prayers, I beg.

Love
Ana

Load Shedding Disasters

The constant load shedding in South Africa is causing endless damage to home and business appliances, national telephone systems, business networks etc etc

For the last two days I have been without the internet and my router (2nd one in the last year) was damaged beyond repair, an expense I can ill afford and many thousands of others across the country.

I missed you all!

Please pray for South Africa.

There is nothing I can do – 8 December

South Africa is struggling under what is called “Load Shedding.”

This means our Electricity is switched off, up to 4 times per day, for 2 1/2 hours each time.

So when my posts are foreshortened, you will know why.

It is extremely frustrating, to put it mildly!

Please Pray for South Africa!

Dear American Friend,

On your Thanksgiving Day, I wanted to be sure to remind you of this:

Thank you.

I pray you are reminded not just today but every day,

of how grateful I am for you all.

St Andrew’s Christmas Novena – Begins on St Andrew’s Feast Day – 30 November

St Andrew’s Christmas Novena – Begins on St Andrew’s Feast Day – 30 November

Prepare for the arrival of our King!

Just a reminder of this beautiful Catholic tradition st-andrews-prayer-christmas-novena-no-1 - 30nov2017.jpg

The Feast of Saint Andrew has always been closely associated with the beginning of Advent as it is on 30 November, around the First Sunday of Advent.   In light of that fact, a prayer was developed as a daily preparation for Christmas and took 30 November as its starting point.

It is sometimes called the Christmas Novena, St Andrew’s Novena, St Andrew’s Christmas Prayer, or the Christmas Anticipation Prayer.

It is a beautiful prayer that focuses on the moment of Christ’s birth and can act as an inspiring meditation for Advent and of course, we pray for our own intentions – 15 times a day – God is listening!  The prayer is customarily prayed 15 times a day, as a family, it is most efficacious to pray it five times before and after mealtimes, alternating the family members.

Let us prepare our hearts to welcome Christ, our Saviour and Redeemer and pray the “Christmas Novena.”

Hail and blessed be the hour and moment
in which the Son of God was born
of the most pure Virgin Mary,
at midnight, in Bethlehem, in the piercing cold.
In that hour vouchsafe,
I beseech Thee, O my God,
to hear my prayer and grant my desires,
………………… [here mention your request]
through the merits of Our Saviour Jesus Christ
and of His blessed Mother.

Something has gone horribly wrong with the PC – I pray it is just a simple fix but being rather IT compromised, I have no idea what to do and will have to find a professional or perhaps, a 10 year old IT genius, to help.

I’ll be back asap but in the meantime I will be praying for you all, dear fellow-pilgrims.

Donations Appeal to my Fellow-Pilgrims, blessed supporters and friends

Anastpaul.com has been ‘live’ as a personal growth and evangelisation project for well over 2 years now.
I am privileged and blessed by your faithful love and encouragement.
As times grow increasingly tough here in South Africa, the cost of the Internet alone is becoming ever more exorbitant, regardless of all the other costs related to the site and those of staying alive!
Many of you have helped me to continue this ‘mission’ which I fulfil with joy, love and prayer.   I know you are aware of how time-consuming and expensive it is but I would rather do this, along with my personal work in my Parish (in South Africa, the laity do not receive any financial recompense for their Parish work), more than anything else on earth.
My request is for any help you may be able to offer.   No amount is too small.
I offer my daily prayers for you all.
May St Francis, a Beggar for Christ, pray for this appeal.
May the Lord shine His Face upon you and grant you peace.
Ana

I offer too, a Prayer of Thanksgiving, for the great love and generosity of dear friends and supporters

ROSEMARY AND EDWARD

who have come to my aid within the last 2 days, with financial support, encouragement and love.

Holy Mass will be offered for you both tomorrow, Friday 13 September.

I express praise and thanks to God, in His providential plan,
God has blessed each one of us.
Psalm 34 is a perfect Psalm of thanksgiving, praising God for His glorious blessings, love and kindness, that He has blessed us all with.

I will bless the Lord at all times,
his praise shall continually be in my mouth.
My soul makes its boast in the Lord,
let the afflicted hear and be glad.
O magnify the Lord with me,
and let us exalt his name together!

I sought the Lord and he answered me,
and delivered me from all my fears.
Look to him and be radiant,
so your faces shall never be ashamed.
This poor man cries and the Lord heard him,
and saved him out of all his troubles.
The angel of the Lord encamps
around those who fear him and delivers them.
O taste and see that the Lord is good!
Happy is the man who takes refuge in him!
O fear the Lord, you his saints,
for those who fear him have no want!
The young lions suffer want and hunger
but those who seek the Lord, lack no good thing.

Come, O sons, listen to me,
I will teach you the fear of the Lord.
What man is there who desires lif,
and covets many days, that he may enjoy good?
Keep your tongue from evil
and your lips from speaking deceit.
Depart from evil and do good;
seek peace and pursue it.

The eyes of the Lord are toward the righteous,
and his ears toward their cry.
The face of the Lord is against evildoers,
to cut off the remembrance of them from the earth.
When the righteous cry for help, the Lord hears,
and delivers them out of all their troubles.
The Lord is near to the brokenhearted,
and saves the crushed in spirit.

Many are the afflictions of the righteous
but the Lord delivers him out of them all.
He keeps all his bones,
not one of them is broken.
Evil shall slay the wicked
and those who hate the righteous will be condemned.
The Lord redeems the life of his servants;
none of those who take refuge in him will be condemned.appeal - the power of prayer 12 sept 2019 - psalm 34.jpg

Thought for the Day – 11 September – “Blessed are you when men hate you”

Thought for the Day – 11 September – – Wednesday of the Twenty-third week in Ordinary Time, Year C, Gospel: Luke 6:20–26 and The Memorial of St John Gabriel Perboyre (1802-1840) Martyr of the Congregation of the Mission

“Blessed are you when men hate you and when they exclude you and revile you and cast out your name as evil, on account of the Son of man!   Rejoice in that day and leap for joy, for behold, your reward is great in heaven, for so their fathers did to the prophets. ... Luke 6:22-23

A sermon he heard at age 15 inspired St John Gabriel to become a missionary in China. There he met a brutal death on a cross for refusing to renounce his faith.

Born in France in 1802, Jean-Gabriel became a Vincentian priest.   He displayed so many gifts and had such fine personal and spiritual qualities that, for a time, his religious order kept him busy closer to home.

He finally received permission to begin his missionary endeavours in 1835.   After a 1,000-mile trip by boat and foot across three provinces, he arrived in central China.   In one early letter, written to his community in Paris, he described himself as a curious sight –  “my head shaved, a long pig-tail, stammering my new languages, eating with chopsticks.”

He soon joined the Vincentians in helping to rescue abandoned Chinese children and in educating them in the Catholic faith.   He was arrested in 1839 under an edict that banned Christianity.   He was tortured and interrogated for months.   Almost one year later he was executed by strangling while hanging on a cross.

Saint Jean-Gabriel was Canonised by St Pope John Paul II in 1996.   Chinese government officials denied permission for any public Mass commemorating the new saint.

So many saints seem to have lived centuries ago.   Jean-Gabriel is far more recent and we can identify better with his life and circumstances.   His life and death speak to us of living the faith in our own times and places, for these are times of great persecution and endurance for the Son of man!

Mother’s Day! 12 May and Mary’s Month

Wishing all Mothers a Blessed and Happy Mothers’ Day

May Mary, the Mother of our Lord Jesus Christ

Mothers’ Day Prayer
to Mary, our Mother
Intercessions from 1727 the Liturgical Order of Blessing

Mary,
Mother of God
and our Mother,
pray for all mothers,
so that they will be able
to fulfill their maternal responsibilities.
Help them to be lovers and nurturers of
all human life from the moment of conception
until natural death,
all the while being examples
for their own children.
Pray for their children,
so that they, too,
will be faithful followers of your Son.
We pray for our mothers,
who have given us life and love,
that we may show them reverence and love.
We pray for mothers,
who have lost a child through death,
that their faith may give them hope
and their family and friend,
support and console them.
We pray for mothers who have died,
that God may bring them
into the joy of His kingdom
We offer these prayers
through Christ, our Lord
and your Son,
in union with the Holy Spirit,
one God forever and ever.

About Me – Anastpaul

About, Yes, about – 10 years ago a new Catholic Social Media website was launched in South Africa.   The creators and dreamers were in my Parish and I got involved – before long I was part of the leading Team and thus began this little project of mine.Anastpaul_1436004826_280

When, after a long slog of around 8 years and many curved balls – mostly financial ones (being in South Africa makes the financial aspects very difficult) – I left and began my own little project here.

I have been known as Anastpaul online, for much longer than the 10 years though – my name is Ana, St Paul is one of my two Confirmation Saints and I have always been very involved with catechesis and evangelisation in some form or another, trusting always in the passion and zeal of St Paul.

I am a ‘cradle’ Catholic, a Dominican Tertiary, brought up in a wholly Catholic home by Spanish and Italian parents (with a bit of Lithuanian Jewish blood too).   Rosary daily as a family, daily prayer, weekly Confession, Mass every day during Lent, etc etc.  We went to a Dominican Convent Private School and Christian Brothers schools, belonged to all available Catholic apostolates and just “Breathed Catholic.”  And so it has been – married a Catholic and our children too “Breathe Catholic”, for our blood is Catholic and is graced by the Holy Trinity and our forefathers are the Apostles.    Mary is our Holy Mother and our friends are the Saints and Angels.

I live a totally Catholic life, involved in our Parish, running various apostolates there, am an ‘old-fashioned Catholic’ of the Spanish school and am 100% true to One Holy Catholic Faith.   I do not like “labels” but if one should be applied I would be regarded as a “Traditional” Catholic.   No “Liberalism” and “Modernism.”

I know this much is true – if you ‘Breathe Catholic” so too will your children grow up truly Catholic!   Amen.

Again this country is facing darkness (in many ways) but we are facing a melt-down in regard to electricity – the power is being cut at various times throughout each day to conserve the national grid.
