One Minute Reflection – 6 October – Today’s Gospel: Luke 10:17–24 – Saturday of the Twenty-sixth week in Ordinary Time and the Memorial of St Bruno O.Cart. (c 1030-1101)

“Nevertheless, do not rejoice because the spirits are subject to you but rejoice, because your names are written in heaven.”
At that very moment he rejoiced in the Holy Spirit and said, “I give you praise, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, for although you have hidden these things from the wise and the learned you have revealed them to the babes…” Luke 10:20-21I give you praise Father - luke 10 21 - 6 oct 2018

REFLECTION – “We were chosen out of love and this is our identity.
I have chosen this religion, I have chosen?… NO, you have not chosen.
He is the one who chose you, called you and bound Himself to you.
And this is our faith.   If we do not believe this, we do not understand what the message of Christ is and then we do not understand the Gospel.
He fell in love with our smallness and for this reason He chose us.   And He chooses the little ones – not the great, the little ones.   If you want to understand something of the mystery of Jesus, lower yourself, make yourself small.   Recognise that you are nothing. And not only does He choose and reveal Himself to the little ones but He calls the little ones:  ‘Come to me, all you who are tired and oppressed, I will give you rest’.   But does He not call the gre  at? His heart is open but the great cannot hear His voice because they are full of themselves.   To listen to the voice of the Lord, one must become small.”….Pope Francis – Santa Marta, 23 June 2017we were chosen out of love - pope francis - 6 october 2018

PRAYER – Lord God, You called St Bruno to serve You in a life of solitude. Amidst this world’s changes, help us, by his prayers, to set out hearts always on You.   Heavenly Father, let me realise that You guide our lives through Your Providence, Your Word and Sacraments.   Help me to be obedient to the rules for my state in life and so be obedient to Your will for me.   Grant that the prayers of St Bruno may assist us as we strive to grow in humility.   Through our Lord, Jesus Christ, Your Son in union with the Holy Spirit, one God forever and ever, amen.st bruno - pray for us - 6 oct 2018

Thought for the Day – 6 October – The Memorial of St Bruno (c 1030-1101)

St. Bruno was one of the most exceptional scholars, teachers, prayer warriors of his time:
“…a prudent man whose word was rich in meaning.”   I think the key was the gift of great humility.

The Order founded by Bruno — the Carthusians — is one of the strictest in the Church. Carthusians follow the Rule of St Benedict but accord it a most austere interpretation, there is perpetual silence and complete abstinence from flesh meat (only bread, legumes and water are taken for nourishment). Bruno sought to revive the ancient eremitical (hermit) way of life.   His Order enjoys the distinction of never becoming unfaithful to the spirit of its founder, never needing a reform.

Bruno and his friends built an oratory with small individual cells at a distance from each other.   They met for Matins and Vespers each day and spent the rest of the time in solitude, eating together only on great feasts.   Their chief work was copying manuscripts.

Hearing of Bruno’s holiness, the pope called for his assistance in Rome.   When the pope had to flee Rome, Bruno pulled up stakes again and after refusing a bishopric, spent his last years in the wilderness of Calabria.

Silence in the Statutes:

What benefits
What divine exultation
The solitude and silence of the desert
Hold in store for those who love it!

(Saint Bruno to Raoul)silence in the statues - st bruno - 6 oct 2018

Bruno was never formally canonised, because the Carthusians were averse to all occasions of publicity.   However, Pope Clement X extended his feast to the whole Church in 1674.

“Rejoice, my dearest brothers, because you are blessed and because of the bountiful hand of God’s grace upon you.
Rejoice, because you have escaped the various dangers and shipwrecks of the stormy world.
Rejoice because you have reached the quiet and safe anchorage of a secret harbour. Many wish to come into this port and many make great efforts to do so, yet do not achieve it. Indeed many, after reaching it, have been thrust out, since it was not granted them from above.
By your work you show what you love and what you know.
When you observe true obedience with prudence and enthusiasm, it is clear that you wisely pick the most delightful and nourishing fruit of divine Scripture.”

from a letter by Saint Bruno to the Carthusians

May we mirror Bruno’s quest for holiness and unity with God.

“The Cheerful Ascetic”

From His Preaching:  On Divine Mercy

“Oh, if only all the sinners of the whole wide world were present here!   Yes, even the greatest, the most hardened, even those close to despair, I would call out to them, “The Lord God is merciful and gracious, patient and of much compassion” (Exodus 34:6). I would show them why the Apostles call God the Father of Mercy, the God of all consolation.   I would tell them that the prophet in the Old Testament even said that the earth is full of the mercy of God and that mercy is above all His works.

O, Mother of Mercy!   You understood the mercy of God when you cried out in the Magnificat, “His mercy is from generation to generation!”   Obtain for all sinners a childlike confidence in the mercy of God.

It is not His justice but His mercy which is the motive of your trust.   He is the God of all consolations and the Father of mercies.   He does wish the death of a sinner but that he be converted and live.   He came to heal the sick and to seek those who were lost.   He spared the woman taken in adultery.   He showed mercy to the thief crucified with Him. He took upon Himself our punishment.   He prayed for His murderers.   He now intercedes for us at the right hand of God.   None of the damned was ever lost because his sin was too great but because his trust was too small.”

“He who hears you, hears me and he who rejects you,
rejects me and he who rejects me, rejects him who sent me.”...Luke 10:16

REFLECTION – “Someone, having listened to the verse:  “Offer to God a sacrifice of praise” (Ps 50[49].14), said to himself:  “I will go to church every day when I get up and sing a morning hymn;  then an evening hymn at the end of the day and then, in my own home, a third and fourth hymn.   This is how I will make a sacrifice of praise every day and offer it to my God.”   It is good to do this if you do it in truth but beware of placing your confidence in what you do and fear lest, while your tongue is speaking eloquently before God, your life may be speaking badly…
Take care you don’t live evilly, while speaking well.”…St Augustine (354-430) Father & Doctor of the Church

PRAYER – And we exult you, O Mary Assumed into Heaven, as we contemplate you who have been glorified and, in the risen Christ, have become the co-worker of the Holy Spirit in communicating divine life to mankind.   In you we see the goal of holiness to which God calls all the Church’s members.   In your life we recognise the clear sign of the path to spiritual maturity and Christian holiness. With you, with Blesseds Francis Xavier Seelos,  Bartholomew Longo and with all the saints, we glorify God the Trinity, who sustains our earthly pilgrimage and lives and reigns for ever and ever. Second Thoughts for the Day – 4 October – Celebrating St Francis of Assisi OFM (1181/2–1226)

His name was Francis…

He used to praise God the Artist in every one of God’s works.   Whatever joy he found in things made he referred to their maker.   He rejoiced in all the works of God’s hands. Everything cried out to him, “He who made us is infinitely good!’

He called animals “brother” or “sister” and he exhorted them to praise God.   He would go through the streets, inviting everyone to sing with hi  m. And one time when he came upon an almond tree, he said, ‘Brother Almond, speak to me of God.”   And the almond tree blossomed.

That is what Saint Francis of Assisi did and that is what he does for us once we are caught up in his life and teachings.  He makes us blossom, wherever and whoever we are.   We blossom because we see in Francis what could happen to us if we were to embrace the overflowing goodness of God revealed in everything that exists and let that embrace change us.…Murray Bodo, OFM

Dear friends, Francis was a great Saint and a joyful man.   His simplicity, his humility, his faith, his love for Christ, his goodness towards every man and every woman, brought him gladness in every circumstance.   Indeed, there subsists an intimate and indissoluble relationship between holiness and joy.   A French writer once wrote that there is only one sorrow in the world – not to be saints, that is, not to be near to God.   Looking at the testimony of St Francis, we understand that this is the secret of true happiness: -to become saints, close to God!

May the Virgin, so tenderly loved by Francis, obtain this gift for us.   Let us entrust ourselves to her with the words of the Poverello of Assisi himself:

“Blessed Virgin Mary, no one like you among women has ever been born in the world, daughter and handmaid of the Most High King and heavenly Father, Mother of our Most Blessed Lord Jesus Christ, spouse of the Holy Spirit.

Pray for us… to your most blessed and beloved Son, Lord and Master”

REFLECTION – “Three times Christ on the Cross came to life and told him:  “Go, Francis, and repair my Church in ruins”.   This simple occurrence of the word of God heard in the Church of St Damian, contains a profound symbolism.   At that moment, St Francis was called to repair the small church but the ruinous state of the building, was a symbol of the dramatic and disquieting situation of the Church herself…. it is important to note that St Francis does not renew the Church without, or in opposition, to the Pope but only in communion with him.   Authentic renewal grew from these together….
Francis, standing before the Bishop of Assisi, in a symbolic gesture, stripped off his clothes, thus showing he renounced his paternal inheritance.   Just as at the moment of creation, Francis had nothing, only the life that God gave him, into whose hands he delivered himself….
The truth is that St Francis really did have an extremely intimate relationship with Jesus and with the word of God, that he wanted to pursue sine glossa – just as it is, in all its radicality and truth.   It is also true, that initially he did not intend to create an Order with the necessary canonical forms.   Rather he simply wanted, through the word of God and the presence of the Lord, to renew the People of God, to call them back to listening to the word and to literal obedience to Christ.”…Pope Benedict XVI – Catechesis on St Francis – General Audience, 27 January 2010luke 10 4-5 - st francis really did have - pope benedict - 4 oct 2018

To another he said, “Follow me.”   But he said, “Lord, let me first go and bury my father.” But he said to him, “Leave the dead to bury their own dead but as for you, go and proclaim the kingdom of God.”...Luke 9:59-60

Following and accompanying Christ, staying with Him, demands “coming out of ourselves”, requires us to be outgoing – to come out of ourselves, out of a dreary way of living faith that has become a habit, out of the temptation to withdraw into our own plans which end by shutting out God’s creative action.

God came out of Himself to come among us, He pitched his tent among us to bring to us His mercy that saves and gives hope.
If we want to follow Him and to remain with Him, we too must “go out” with Him to seek the lost sheep, the one that has strayed the furthest.

To come out always!   And to do so with God’s love and tenderness, with respect and with patience, knowing that God takes our hands, our feet, our heart and guides them and makes all our actions fruitful...

REFLECTION –
“Remember the Father’s glory,
Remember the divine splendour
You left in exiling Yourself on earth
To redeem all the poor sinners.
O Jesus! Humbling Yourself to the Virgin Mary,
You veiled Your infinite greatness and glory.
Ah! Your mother’s breast
Was Your second heaven,
Remember…

Remember that on other shores
The golden stars and silver moon
On which I gaze in the cloudless sky
Delighted and charmed Your Infant eyes.
With Your little hand that caressed Mary
You upheld the world and gave it life,
And You thought of me,

Not a shelter, like the birds of heaven.

Come, my soul is truly ready to receive You.

Thought for the Day – 2 October – The Memorial of the Holy Guardian Angels

Perhaps no aspect of Catholic piety is as comforting to parents as the belief that an angel protects their little ones from dangers real and imagined.   Yet guardian angels are not only for children.   Their role is to represent individuals before God, to watch over them always, to aid their prayer and to present their souls to God at death.

The concept of an angel assigned to guide and nurture each human being is a development of Catholic doctrine and piety based on Scripture but not directly drawn from it.   Jesus’ words in Matthew 18:10 best support the belief:  “See that you do not despise one of these little ones, for I say to you that their angels in heaven always look upon the face of my heavenly Father.”

Devotion to the angels is, at base, an expression of faith in God’s enduring love and providential care extended to each person day in and day out.

The Catholic Church believes there is a link among believers, angels and the God who made us all:   “From its beginning until death, human life is surrounded by their watchful care and intercession. ‘Beside each believer stands an angel as protector and shepherd leading him to life.’   Already here on earth the Christian life shares by faith in the blessed company of angels and men united in God” (CCC 336).

Excerpt from Pope Benedict’s Catechesis on St Thérèse – 6 April 2011

“Today I would like to talk to you about St Thérèse of Lisieux, Thérèse of the Child Jesus and of the Holy Face, who lived in this world for only 24 years, at the end of the 19th century, leading a very simple and hidden life but who, after her death and the publication of her writings, became one of the best-known and best-loved saints. “Little Thérèse” has never stopped helping the simplest souls, the little, the poor and the suffering who pray to her.

I would like to invite you to rediscover this small-great treasure, this luminous comment on the Gospel lived to the full!   The Story of a Soul, in fact, is a marvellous story of Love, told with such authenticity, simplicity and freshness that the reader cannot but be fascinated by it!   But what was this Love that filled Thérèse’s whole life, from childhood to death?   Dear friends, this Love has a Face, it has a Name, it is Jesus!   The Saint speaks continuously of Jesus.

Dear friends, we too, with St Thérèse of the Child Jesus must be able to repeat to the Lord every day that we want to live of love for Him and for others, to learn at the school of the saints to love authentically and totally.  Thérèse is one of the “little” ones of the Gospel who let themselves be led by God to the depths of his Mystery.   A guide for all, especially those who, in the People of God, carry out their ministry as theologians.   With humility and charity, faith and hope, Thérèse continually entered the heart of Sacred Scripture which contains the Mystery of Christ.   And this interpretation of the Bible, nourished by the science of love, is not in opposition to academic knowledge.   The science of the saints, in fact, of which she herself speaks on the last page of her The Story of a Soul, is the loftiest science.

In the Gospel Thérèse discovered above all the Mercy of Jesus, to the point that she said: “To me, He has given His Infinite Mercy and it is in this ineffable mirror, that I contemplate His other divine attributes.   Therein all appear to me radiant with Love.   His Justice, even more perhaps than the rest, seems to me to be clothed with Love” (Ms A, 84r).

In these words she expresses herself in the last lines of The Story of a Soul:   “I have only to open the Holy Gospels and at once I breathe the perfume of Jesus’ life and then I know which way to run;  and it is not to the first place but to the last, that I hasten…. I feel that even had I on my conscience every crime one could commit… my heart broken with sorrow, I would throw myself into the arms of my Saviour Jesus, because I know that He loves the Prodigal Son” who returns to Him. (Ms C, 36v-37r).

“Trust and Love” are therefore the final point of the account of her life, two words, like beacons, that illumined the whole of her journey to holiness, to be able to guide others on the same “little way of trust and love”, of spiritual childhood (cf. Ms C, 2v-3r; LT 226).

Trust, like that of the child who abandons himself in God’s hands, inseparable from the strong, radical commitment of true love, which is the total gift of self for ever, as the Saint says, contemplating Mary:   “Loving is giving all, and giving oneself” (Why I love thee, Mary, P 54/22).

Thus Thérèse points out to us all that Christian life consists in living to the full the grace of Baptism in the total gift of self to the Love of the Father, in order to live like Christ, in the fire of the Holy Spirit, His same love for all the others.”…Pope Benedict XVI

Pope Benedict XVI – 7 November 2007 –

Catechesis on St Jerome (1)

What can we learn from St Jerome?   It seems to me, this above all – to love the Word of God in Sacred Scripture.

St Jerome said:  “Ignorance of the Scriptures is ignorance of Christ”.   It is therefore important that every Christian live in contact and in personal dialogue with the Word of God given to us in Sacred Scripture.   This dialogue with Scripture must always have two dimensions:  on the one hand, it must be a truly personal dialogue because God speaks with each one of us through Sacred Scripture and it has a message for each one.   We must not read Sacred Scripture as a word of the past but as the Word of God that is also addressed to us and we must try to understand what it is that the Lord wants to tell us. However, to avoid falling into individualism, we must bear in mind that the Word of God has been given to us precisely in order to build communion and to join forces in the truth on our journey towards God.   Thus, although it is always a personal Word, it is also a Word that builds community, that builds the Church.   We must, therefore, read it in communion with the living Church.   The privileged place for reading and listening to the Word of God is the liturgy, in which, celebrating the Word and making Christ’s Body present in the Sacrament, we actualise the Word in our lives and make it present among us.   We must never forget that the Word of God transcends time  . Human opinions come and go.   What is very modern today will be very antiquated tomorrow.   On the other hand, the Word of God is the Word of eternal life, it bears within it eternity and is valid for ever.   By carrying the Word of God within us, we therefore carry within us eternity, eternal life.ignorance of the scriptures is ignorance of christ - st jerome - 30 sep 2018

I thus conclude with a word St Jerome once addressed to St Paulinus of Nola (354-431).  In it the great exegete expressed this very reality, that is, in the Word of God we receive eternity, eternal life.   St Jerome said: “Seek to learn on earth those truths which will remain ever valid in Heaven” (Ep. 53, 10)…. Sunday Reflection – 30 September – Twenty sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time, Year B

Sunday Reflection – 30 September – Twenty sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time, Year B

It is remarkable how it was the reservation of the Blessed Sacrament in Catholic churches that more than anything else impressed and moved Blessed John Henry Newman, even more than the Mass itself.

And so it was that the feature of his new religious life as a Catholic that most struck him came as a complete surprise – namely, the reservation of the Blessed Sacrament in Catholic churches.   He wrote in a letter to a close friend, herself about to become a Catholic a few months later:

“We went over not realising those privileges which we have found by going.   I never allowed my mind to dwell on what I might gain of blessedness – but certainly, if I had thought much upon it, I could not have fancied the extreme, ineffable comfort of being in the same house with Him who cured the sick and taught His disciples …

When I have been in Churches abroad, I have religiously abstained from acts of worship, though it was a most soothing comfort to go into them – nor did I know what was going on;  I neither understood nor tried to understand the Mass service – and I did not know, or did not observe, the tabernacle Lamp – but now after tasting of the awful delight of worshipping God in His Temple, how unspeakably cold is the idea of a Temple without that Divine Presence! One is tempted to say what is the meaning, what is the use of it?”

“It is really most wonderful to see this Divine Presence looking out almost into the open streets from the various Churches … I never knew what worship was, as an objective fact, till I entered the Catholic Church.”

“It is such an incomprehensible blessing to have Christ in bodily presence in one’s house, within one’s walls, as swallows up all other privileges …”

Open House… Conversations with …
St Louis Marie Grignion de Montfort (1673-1716)

On The Memorial of St Simón de Rojas O.SS. (1552-1624) known as “Father Ave Maria” and the “Apostle of the Ave Maria”, we learn a little from St Louis.

How do I find the Grace of God?

TO FIND THE GRACE OF GOD, WE MUST DISCOVER MARY
(Excerpt from The Secret of Mary by St Louis Marie de Montfort)

The difficulty, then, is how to arrive at the true knowledge of the most holy Virgin and so find grace in abundance through her.   God, as the absolute Master, can give directly Hhat he ordinarily dispenses only through Mary and it would be rash to deny that He sometimes does so.   However, St Thomas assures us that, following the order established by His divine Wisdom, God ordinarily imparts His graces to men through Mary  . Therefore, if we wish to go to Him, seeking union with Him, we must use the same means which He used in coming down from heaven to assume our human nature and to impart His graces to us.   That means was a complete dependence on Mary His Mother, which is true devotion to her.

28. Chosen soul, this devotion consists in surrendering oneself in the manner of a slave to Mary and to Jesus through her and then performing all our actions with Mary, in Mary, through Mary and for Mary.   Let me explain this statement further.

29. We should choose a special feast day on which to give ourselves.   Then, willingly and lovingly and under no constraint, we consecrate and sacrifice to her unreservedly our body and soul.   We give to her our material possessions, such as house, family, income, and even the inner possessions of our soul, namely, our merits, graces, virtues and atonements.   Notice that in this devotion we sacrifice to Jesus through Mary all that is most dear to us, that is, the right to dispose of ourselves, of the value of our prayers and alms, of our acts of self- denial and atonements.   This is a sacrifice which no religious order would require of its members.   We leave everything to the free disposal of our Lady, for her to use as she wills for the greater glory of God, of which she alone is perfectly aware.

30. We leave to her the right to dispose of all the satisfactory and prayer value of our good deeds, so that, after having done so and without going so far as making a vow, we cease to be master over any good we do.   Our Lady may use our good deeds either to bring relief or deliverance to a soul in purgatory, or perhaps to bring a change of heart to a poor sinner.

31. By this devotion we place our merits in the hands of our Lady but only that she may preserve, increase and embellish them, since merit for increase of grace and glory cannot be handed over to any other person.   But we give to her all our prayers and good works, inasmuch as they have intercessory and atonement value, for her to distribute and apply to whom she pleases.   If, after having thus consecrated ourselves to our Lady, we wish to help a soul in purgatory, rescue a sinner, or assist a friend by a prayer, an alms, an act of self-denial or an act of self-sacrifice, we must humbly request it of our Lady, abiding always by her decision, which of course remains unknown to us.   We can be fully convinced that the value of our actions, being dispensed by that same hand which God himself uses to distribute His gifts and graces to us, cannot fail to be applied for His greatest glory.

Act of Consecration to Mary
By St Louis Marie Grignion de Montfort (1673-1716)

I, N…., a faithless sinner-
renew and ratify today in thy hands,
Immaculate Mother, the vows of my Baptism;
I renounce forever Satan, his pomps and works,
and I give myself entirely to Jesus Christ, the Incarnate Wisdom,
to carry my cross after Him all the days of my life
and to be more faithful to Him than I have ever been before.
In the presence of all the heavenly court,
I choose thee this day, for my Mother and Mistress.
I deliver and consecrate to thee, as thy slave,
my body and soul, my goods, both interior and exterior
and even the value of all my good actions, past, present and future,
leaving to thee the entire and full right of disposing of me
and all that belongs to me, without exception,
according to thy good pleasure,
for the greater glory of God, in time and in eternity.

REFLECTION – “In fact, there are two ways of “seeing” and “knowing” Jesus one – that of the crowd – is more superficial, the other – that of the disciples – more penetrating and genuine.   With His twofold question:  “What do the people say?” and “who do you say that I am?”, Jesus invited the disciples to become aware of this different perspective.   The people thought that Jesus was a prophet.   This was not wrong but it does not suffice, it is inadequate.   In fact, it was a matter of delving deep, of recognising the uniqueness of the person of Jesus of Nazareth and His newness.   This is how it still is today, many people draw near to Jesus, as it were, from the outside….Let us make Peter’s answer our own…..
Today too, as in Jesus’ day, it does not suffice to possess the proper confession of faith – it is always necessary to learn anew from the Lord the actual way in which He is Saviour and the path on which we must follow Him.   Indeed, we have to recognise that even for believers, the Cross is always hard to accept.”…Pope Benedict XVI – 29 June 2007today too, as in Jesus' day - pope benedict - 28 sept 2018

Thought for the Day – 27 September – The Memorial of St Vincent de Paul C.M. (1581-1660)

From “Conferences to the Priests of the Mission”
by St Vincent de Paul (Conference 207).

It is not enough to love God if my neighbour does not love Him.

“Our vocation is to go and enflame the heart of men, to do what the Son of God did, He who brought fire into the world to set it alight with His love.   What else can we wish for, than for it to burn and consume all things?

Thus it is true that I have been sent not only to love God but also to make men love Him.

It is not enough to love God if my neighbour does not love Him.   I must love my neighbour as the image of God and the object of His love and do everything so that in their turn men love their Creator who knows and considers them as His brothers, whom He has saved, I must obtain that they love each other with mutual love, out of love for God who loved them to the point of abandoning to death His very Son.   So that is my duty.   Now, if it is true that we are called to bear God’s love near and far, if we must set nations alight, if our vocation is to go and spread this divine fire in the whole world, if it is so, my brothers, if it is really so, how must I myself burn of this divine fire!

How can we give love to others, if we do not have it among us?   Let us look if it is so, not generally but if each one has it within himself, in due amount, because if love is not on fire in us, if we do not love each other as Jesus Christ loved us and if we do not act as He did, how can we hope to spread such love throughout the world?   You cannot give what you do not have.  The precise duty of charity consists in doing to others what you reasonably would like done to yourself.   Do I really behave towards my neighbour as I wish he would towards me?

Let us look at the Son of God.   Only our Lord can be so taken by love for creatures so much as to leave His Father’s throne and take a body subject to infirmity.  And why?   In order to establish among us, with His word and example, the love of our neighbours. This is the love that led Him to the Cross and accomplished the wonderful work of our redemption.  If we had a little of such love, would we stay here with folded arms?   Oh! no, love can not remain barren, it urges us to obtain salvation and relief for others.”

Prayer for Vocations
By St Vincent de Paul

O Lord,
send good workers to Your Church,
but may they be good!
Send good missionaries
to work in Your vineyard,
labourers, O my God,
such as they ought to be:
utterly detached from themselves,
their own comfort,
and worldly goods.
Let them even be few in number,
provided that they are good.
O Lord, grant this grace

“It is not enough to give soup and bread.
This the rich can do.
You are the servant of the poor,
always smiling and good-humoured.
They are your masters, terribly sensitive
and exacting master you will see.
And the uglier and the dirtier they will be,
the more unjust and insulting,
the more love you must give them.
It is only for your love alone,
that the poor will forgive you the bread you give to them.it is not enough to give soup - st v de p - 27 sept 2018

One Minute Reflection – 27 September – Today’s First Reading: Ecclesiastes 1:2–11 – Thursday of the Twenty-fifth week in Ordinary Time, Year B – The Memorial of St Vincent de Paul (1581-1660)

What has been is what will be and what has been done is, what will be done..Ecclesiastes 1:9

REFLECTION – “Free your mind from all that troubles you; God will take care of things. You will be unable to make haste in this (choice) without, so to speak, grieving the heart of God because he sees that you do not honour Him sufficiently with holy trust. Trust in Him, I beg you and you will have the fulfilment of what your heart desires.”….St Vincent de Paulwhat has been is what will be - free our mind from all that troubles you - st v de p - no.2. colour - 27 sept 2018

PRAYER – Father, You endowed St Vincent de Paul with the spirit of an apostle to give himself to the poor and to the training of priests.   Give us, good Lord, a share of the same spirit, that we may love what he loved and do as he taught.   Fill us with hope and total trust and abandonment to Your Holy Providence.   Through our Lord Jesus Christ, in union with the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever.   St Vincent de Paul, pray for us, amen.st-vincent-de-paul-pray-for-us-27 sepy 2017
