Quote/s of the Day – 7 October – The Feast of the Holy Rosary of the Blessed Virgin Mary

Quote/s of the Day – 7 October – “The Month of The Most Holy Rosary and The Holy Angels” – The Feast of the Holy Rosary of the Blessed Virgin Mary/Our Lady of Victory of Lepanto

The Rosary is the most divine of devotions.

St Charles Borromeo (1538-1584)

… [I] resolved to recite a Rosary
for anyone who caused me trouble.
Then I heard the Voice
from the Tabernacle say,
‘Your prayers for those
who mortify you,
are very pleasing to Me.
In exchange, I am ready
to grant you many graces.
‘”

St Serafino of Montegranaro (1540-1604)

The greatest method of praying
is to pray the Rosary.

St Francis de Sales (1567-1622)

Never will anyone
who says his Rosary everyday,
be led astray.
This is a statement
that I would gladly sign
with my blood.

St Louis Marie Grignion de Montfort (1673-1716)

The Rosary is a powerful weapon
to put the demons to flight
and to keep oneself from sin…
If you desire peace in your hearts,
in your homes
and in your country,
assemble each evening to recite the Rosary.
Let not even one day pass without saying it,
no matter how burdened you may be
with many cares and labours.

Pope Pius XI (1857-1939)

One Minute Reflection – 7 October – “Hail, full of grace!” – Luke 1:28

One Minute Reflection – 7 October – “The Month of The Most Holy Rosary and The Holy Angels” – The Feast of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary – Proverbs 8:22-24, 32-35 – Luke 1:26-38 – Scripture search here: https://www.drbo.org/

Hail, full of grace!” – Luke 1:28

REFLECTION – “Let us honour the Queen of Heaven, Mother of Life, source of mercy, overflowing delights, leaning on her Beloved. Let us praise her, knowing full well that our praise will be insufficient.

Risen above the tallest trees of Paradise and exalted above the highest peaks of mountains, she will penetrate Heaven with incredible majesty accompanied by the singing of the Choirs of Celestial Angels and surrounded by the dancing of Angels. Happy are those who dwell in Thine House, O Lord, they will praise Thee without end! In Thee we praise, not Eve, who introduced the poison but Mary, who gave Life, who is the mother and nursemaid of all, the life of all the living. In thee we praise even our own mothers.

May all hear and rejoice, the humble virgin rises, crowned, to the throne of glory, may the humble rejoice. May those who exalt themselves in their presumption fall. Mary who gives herself as a holocaust to the fullness of grace. May the Blessed Virgin, unique in her merits, stand in the presence of her Creator, interceding always in our favour. She will be radiant in the fullness of glory, she who brought forth, from her virginal womb, the King of Glory.” – St Amadeus of Lausanne O.Cist. (1108-1159) Cistercian Bishop (Marian Sermon VII)

PRAYER – O God, Whose Only-begotten Son, by His life, death and resurrection, has merited for us the grace of eternal salvation, grant, we beseech Thee, that, meditating on these Mysteries in the Most Holy Rosary of the Blessed Virgin Mary, we may both imitate what they contain and obtain what they promise. Through the same Jesus Christ, Thy Son our Lord, Who lives and reigns with Thee, in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God, world without end. Amen (Collect).

One Minute Reflection – 1 October – “The Month of the Most Holy Rosary and the Holy Angels” – St Remigius (c438-533) Confessor, “Apostle of the Franks” Bishop –Ecclesiasticus Sir ach 44:16-27; 45:3-20 – Matthew 25:14-23 – Scripture search here: https://www.drbo.org/

Well done, good and faithful servant … Enter thou into the joy of thy Lord.”- Matthew 25:21

REFLECTION – “The Word of the Father, Only-begotten Son of God, Sun of Justice (Mal 3:20), is the great Merchant Who has brought us the price of our redemption. It is a truly precious exchange which we can never value sufficiently, when a King, Son of the King Most High, has become the Coin, the Gold has paid our dues, the Just Man is given for the sinner. Truly unmerited mercy, perfectly disinterested love, astonishing goodness …, it is a completely disproportionate purchase, in which the Son of God is delivered up for the servant, the Creator is put to death for the one He has created, the Lord is condemned for His slave.

O Christ, these are Thine Works, Thou Who descended from Heaven’s brightness into our hellish darkness, to bring Light to our gloomy prison. Thou came down from the Right Hand of the Divine Majesty, into our human misery, to redeem the human race, Thou Who descended from the Father’s glory, to death on the Cross, to triumph over death and its author. Thou art the only One and there is no other but Thee Who could have been drawn to redeem us through Thine Own Goodness…

Let all the merchants of Teman (Bar 3:23) withdraw from this place … it is not they but Israel [Thy] beloved whom [Thou hast] chosen, Thou Who hide these mysteries from the wise and prudent and have revealed them to those babes and humble servants of Thine (Lk 10:21) … O Lord, I willingly embrace this purchase since it concerns me!… I remember all the things Thou hast done, Thou Who desire that I should keep them alive … Therefore, I shall profit by this talent which Thou hast lent to me until Thy return and will stand before Thee with great joy. O God, grant that I may then hear these sweet words: “Well done, good and faithful servant! Enter thou into the joy of thy Lord (Mt 25:21).” – St Bernard O.Cist. (1091-1153) Cistercian Monk, known as the Last Father and the Mellifluous Doctor of the Church (Selected sermons, no 42: The Five Purchases).

PRAYER – Grant, we beseech Thee, Almighty God that the solemn feast of blessed Remigius, Thy Confessor and Bishop, may both increase our devotion and advance our salvation. Through the same Jesus Christ, Thy Son our Lord, Who lives and reigns with Thee, in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God, world without end. Amen (Collect).

O blessed Rosary of Mary,
Sweet chain which unites us to God,
Bond of Love, which connects us with the Angels,
Tower of Safety against the assaults of hell,
Sure Harbour in the universal shipwreck,
never more shall we part with thee;

to thee, the last kiss of our life
and the last word of our dying lips,
shall be thy sweet name –
Queen of the Rosary of Valle di Pompeii.
Mother dear, only refuge of sinners,
supreme comforter of the afflicted,
blessed be thy name,
now and forever, on earth and in heaven.
Amen.

THIS festival has been kept with great solemnity on the 29th of September ever since the Fifth Century and was certainly initially celebrated in Apulia in 493.
The Dedication of the famous Church of St Michael on Mount Gargano, in Italy, gave occasion to the institution of this Feast in the West, which is hence called in the Martyrologies of St Jerome, St Bede and others, ‘The Dedication of St Michael.’

Our Morning Offering – 27 September – “The Month of The Seven Sorrows of the Blessed Virgin Mary and The Holy Cross”

God Of Mercy! Let Us Run!
Summæ Deus Clementiæ (Most High God of Mercy)
Transl. By Fr Frederik William Faber CO (1814-1863)

God of Mercy! let us run
Where Thon fount of sorrows flows;
Pondering sweetly, one by one,
Jesu’s Wounds and Mary’s woes.

Ah! those tears Our Lady shed,
Enough to drown a world of sin;
Tears which Jesu’s sorrows fed,
Peace and pardon well may win!

His five Wounds a very home
For our prayers and praises prove;
And Our Lady’s Woes become
Endless joys’in Heaven above.

Jesu, Who for us didst die,
All on Thee, our love we pour;
And in the Holy Trinity
Worship Thee forever more.

This Hymn is used for Lauds on the Feast of the Seven Sorrows of the Blessed Virgin Mary in the Extraordinary Form of the Roman Breviary.
This is the full, original text from an 1852 edition of Fr. Faber’s Hymnal Jesus and Mary. It is listed for The Dolours of Our Lady.

Saints Cosmas and Damian (Died c 286 ) Martyrs, Reminder of the Novena to Our Lady of the Rosary and the rest of the Saints celebrated on 27 September

Announcing a Novena to Our Lady of the Rosary
Begins 28 or 29 September.
The Feast of the Most Holy Rosary
is celebrated on 7 October.

NOTE on Novenas:
As we are well aware, the First Novena is that which the Apostles and disciples prayed in the Upper Room in preparation for and anticipation of, the arrival of the Holy Ghost.
Tradition says that after the Ascention the Apostles gathered and prayed for 9 days and on the 10the day, being the day of Pentecost, the Holy Ghost descended upon them.
This is the way I grew up, praying for 9 days before the relevant Feast and celebrating the actual Feast concerned on the 10th day. BUT there is no problem in praying the Novena and finishing the 9th day on the actual Feast and indeed, Novenas may also be prayed at any time needed by the faithful.

We can even pray a Rosary Novena, where we pray the Rosary for 9 days, simply by stating a Special Intention for those 9 days BEFRE we pray our Daily Rosary … there is really no hard and fast rule, i.e. no Correct or Incorrect way.
The important thing is that we are praying with faith and fervent devotion for 9 consecutive days.

Quote/s of the Day – 24 September – Nuestra Señora de las Mercedes / Our Lady of Mercy / Our Lady of Ransom

Mary, Mother of Grace,
it becomes you to be mindful of us,
as you stand near Him who granted you
all graces, for you are the Mother of God
and our Queen.
Help us for the sake of the King,
the Lord God and Master,
Who was born of you.

St Athanasius (297-373)
Father & Doctor of the Church

She was called Mary
that is, star of the sea,
in the foreseeing purpose of God,
that she might declare by her name,
that which she manifests
more clearly in reality.”
… For those who sail upon the sea
of the present age and call on her
with complete faith, she rescues
from the breath of the storm
and the raging of the winds
and brings them, rejoicing with her,
to the shore of their happy country.

St Amadeus of Lausanne (1110-1159)

The name of Mary istruly a tower of strength
which saves sinners from punishment
and defends the just
from the assaults of hell.

St Lawrence Justinian (1381-1455)

A Prayer to Our Lady of Mercy
Our Lady of Czestochowa!

O Mary our dear Lady of Jasna Gora,
look graciously upon thy children
in this troubled and sinful world.
Embrace us all in thy loving
and Motherly protection.

Protect our youth from godless way;
assist our dear ones, who have grown old,
to prepare for their journey home;
shield our defenceless unborn
from the horrors of abortion
and be our strength against all sin.

Spare our children from all hatred,
discrimination and war.
Fill our hearts, our homes
and our world, with the peace
and love which comes only from thy Son
Whom thou embraces so tenderly.

O Queen and Mother,
be our comfort and strength!
Through thy Son,
Jesus Christ our Lord!
Amen

Our Morning Offering – 24 September – Supplication to Our Lady of Ransom

Our Morning Offering – 24 September – “The Month of The Seven Sorrows of the Blessed Virgin Mary and The Holy Cross” – The Feast of Our Lady of Ransom

Supplication to Our Lady of Ransom
To Obtain the Favour of her Patronage until Death.
Unknown Author

Sweet Mother! turn those gentle eyes
Of pity down upon me;
Oh! hear thy suppliant’s tearful cries,
My humble prayer, do not despise,
Star of the pathless sea!

In dark temptation’s dreary hour,
To thee, bright Queen, we flee;
Oh! then exert a mother’s power,
When storms are rough and tempests lower;
Star of the raging sea!

Through all my joys and cares, sweet Maid,
May I still look on thee,
Who bore the Price our ransom paid,
And ne’er the suppliant’s cry hath stayed;
Star of the azure sea!

And when my last expiring sigh,
My soul from earth shall free,
Do thou, bright Queen of Saints, stand by
And bear it up to God on high,
Star of the boundless sea!

Say the Hail Mary three times
followed by
the Hail Holy Queen

St Maurice & Companions:
Martyrs of the Theban Legion: + Martyrs (c 287)

A Roman imperial legion of 6,600 soldiers, all of whom were Christians; they had been recruited from the area around Thebes in Upper Egypt, were led by Saint Maurice and served under Emperor Maximian Herculeus. Around the year 287, Maximian led the army across the Alps to Agaunum, an area in modern Switzerland, in order to suppress a revolt by the Bagandre in Gaul. In connection with battle, the army offered public sacrifices to the Roman gods; the Theban Legion refused to participate. For refusing orders, the Legion was decimated – one tenth of them were executed. When the remainder refused to sacrifice to the gods, they were decimated again. When the survivors still refused to sacrifice, Maximinian ordered them all killed. Martyrs.
