One Minute Reflection – 23 April Octave and Divine Mercy Sunday

One Minute Reflection – 23 April
Octave and Divine Mercy Sunday

DAILY MEDITATION: Kindle the faith of your people and show us Your Mercy!

But you are “a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people of his own, so that you may announce the praises” of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.    Once you were “no people” but now you are God’s people; you “had not received mercy” but now you have received mercy………………..1 Peter 2:9-10

REFLECTION – “How much the world is in need of the mercy of God today!   In every continent, from the depths of human suffering, a cry for mercy seems to rise.   In those places where hatred and the thirst for revenge are overwhelming, where war brings suffering and the death of innocents, one needs the grace of mercy to pacify the minds and the hearts and make peace spring forth.   In those places where there is less respect for life and human dignity, one needs the merciful love of God, in whose light we see the ineffable value of every single human being.   Mercy is needed to ensure that every injustice may find its solution in the splendour of truth. …..As a gift to humanity, which sometimes seems bewildered and overwhelmed by the power of evil, selfishness, and fear, the Risen Lord offers His love that pardons, reconciles, and reopens hearts to love. It is a love that converts hearts and gives peace.   How much the world needs to understand and accept Divine Mercy!”…………St John Paul

PRAYER – “Lord, who reveal the Father’s love by Your death and Resurrection, we believe in You and confidently repeat to You today: Jesus, I trust in You, have mercy upon us and upon the whole world. Amen.” – St John Paul (During his last journey to Poland in August of 2002) St Adalbert of Prague pray for us!

One Minute Reflection – 21 April Easter Friday Seventh Day of the Octave

One Minute Reflection – 21 April Easter Friday Seventh Day of the Octave  and the Memorial of St Anselm ‬OSB (1033-1109) Doctor of the Church

DAILY MEDITATION: Lord, let me love You and feed Your sheep.

Jesus asked a third time,
“Simon son of John, do you love me?”
Peter was hurt because Jesus
had asked him three times if he loved him.
So he told Jesus,
“Lord, you know everything. You know I love you.”
Jesus replied, “Feed my sheep.”
— John 21:17john-21-17.21 april 2018

REFLECTION – “Those who destroy truth with their lies or detractions deny Christ with their mouths.   In the third chapter of the Acts of the Apostles, Peter says: “You denied the Holy and the Just One before Pilate and desired a murderer to be given to you” (3:14). Pilate, whose name means a “hammermouth,” symbolises a person who lies and detracts others.    Those who tell lies destroy truth as if they had pounded it with a hammer; those who detract others destroy the love of neighbour.    In both cases they deny Christ with their mouths.   Detraction seeks to transform good into evil and to minimise its worth.”
…..St Anthony of Padua [1195-1231] on John 21.17those-who-tell-lies-st-anthony-of-padua-21 apirl 2017

PRAYER – Our God and Holy Father, purify our hearts with Your truth and guide them in the way of holiness, so that we may do what is pleasing in your sight.   Let your face shine upon us, that we may be freed from sin and filled with Your plenty.   That we may radiate the light of Christ Your Son to all we meet and never allow us to sin against any of Your children by lies or detraction.   Teach me to feed Your lambs and Your sheep.  May the Prayers of St Anselm be to our gain.   Through Christ our Lord, with the Holy Spirit, God forever and ever, amen.t anselm father of scholasticism pray for us 21 april 2020

One Minute Reflection – 18 April – Easter Tuesday 3rd Day of the Octave

Daily Meditation: You give us the freedom of the children of God.

Mary turned around and saw Jesus standing there.
But she did not know who he was.
Jesus asked her, “Why are you crying?
Who are you looking for?” ……………….. John 20:14-15

REFLECTION – “Throughout the history of the living, the origins of anything new have always been small, practically invisible and easily overlooked.   The Lord Himself has told us that “heaven” in this world is like a mustard seed, the smallest of all the seeds (Matthew 13:31-32), yet contained within it are the infinite potentialities of God.   In terms of world history, Jesus’ Resurrection is improbable; it is the smallest mustard seed of history.

This reversal of proportions is one of God’s mysteries. The great – the mighty – is ultimately the small.   And the tiny mustard seed is something truly great.    So it is that the Resurrection has entered the world only through certain mysterious appearances to the chosen few.   And yet it was truly the new beginning for which the world was silently waiting.   And for the few witnesses – precisely because they themselves could not fathom it – it was such an overwhelmingly real happening, confronting them so powerfully, that every doubt was dispelled and they stepped forth before the world with an utterly new fearlessness in order to bear witness:  Christ is truly risen.……………Excerpt from Jesus of Nazareth: Holy Week: From the Entrance Into Jerusalem To The Resurrection, by Joseph Ratzinger/Pope Benedict XVI, Chapter 9,

PRAYER – Lord God, give me the opportunity to recognise the healing power of love that has been offered me and that it really does fill these days with power.   Teach me to recognise Jesus alive and Jesus with me now.. Grant me freedom from fear, freedom for courageous love and service. Help me to understand the freedom You give us all as Your children. Amen

One Minute Reflection – 17 April – Easter Monday 2nd Day of the Octave

Meditation for the Day:   Help us put our baptism into action.

The women were frightened and yet very happy,
as they hurried from the tomb and ran to tell his disciples.
— Matthew 28:8

REFLECTION – “We imitate Christ’s death by being buried with him in baptism.   If we ask what this kind of burial means and what benefit we may hope to derive from it, it means first of all making a complete break with our former way of life and our Lord Himself said that this cannot be done unless a man is born again.    In other words, we have to begin a new life and we cannot do so until our previous life has been brought to an end. When runners reach the turning point on a racecourse, they have to pause briefly before they can go back in the opposite direction.    So also when we wish to reverse the direction of our lives there must be a pause, or a death, to mark the end of one life and the beginning of another…….Baptism cleanses the soul from the pollution of worldly thoughts and inclinations:   You will wash me, says the psalmist and I shall be whiter than snow.    We receive this saving baptism only once because there was only one death and one resurrection for the salvation of the world and baptism is its symbol.”………St Basil the Great

Prayer – Loving Father, How do I live the baptismal promises I made again over the weekend? I want to live my life in service of You.
Help me to carry the gift of faith I received from You. Help me to welcome those who joined the church in baptism.
Guide me and give me the courage to live my faith, to accept Your love. Amen

REFLECTION – “The Crucifix is an open book that all can read.
The crucifix is an infinite declaration of love!”……………St Catherine of Siena

PRAYER – Lord Jesus Christ, inspire me to read the Crucifix as all the teaching I need. Grant that I may return glory, gratitude and love to You for Your great love for me. Father, into your hands I commend my spirit……Luke 23:45-46

REFLECTION – “He died, but He vanquished death; in Himself He put an end to what we feared;  He took it upon Himself and He vanquished it, as a mighty hunter He captured and slew the lion.
Where is death? Seek it in Christ, for it exists no longer; but it did exist and now it is dead.
O life, O death of death!  Be of good heart; it will die in us, also.   What has taken place in our head will take place in His members; death will die in us also.   But when?   At the end of the world, at the resurrection of the dead in which we believe and concerning which we do not doubt.”…………….St Augustine (Sermon 233:3-4)

PRAYER – God of love, my prayer is simple:  Your son, Jesus, suffered and died for me.
I know only that I cannot have real strength unless I rely on You.   I cannot feel protected from my many weaknesses until I turn to You for forgiveness and your unalterable love. Help me to share this strength, protection and love with others.   St Fulbert of Chartres you worked your whole life to bring the truth and love of God to all, please pray for us, amen.

Thought for the Day – 3 April

Thought for the Day – 3 April

Gradually Father Luigi took on the fundamental traits of a spiritual life centred on Jesus Christ, loved and imitated in the humility and poverty of His incarnation in Bethlehem, in the simplicity of His working life at Nazareth, in His total immolation on the cross on Calvary and in the silence of the Eucharist.   And since Jesus had said: “Whatever you did to one of the least of these my brethren you did it to me”, it is to them that every day Father Luigi devoted his life with the practical commitment to “seek first the kingdom of God and his justice” convinced that all the rest will be given according to the gospel promise.   All the works he set in motion during his life reflect this preferential option for the poorest, the lowliest, the abandoned.
The more we read of the Saints, the more we know the answer without any doubt.   For it has been given to us by God Himself, “whatever you do unto the least of these my brethren you did it to me.” (Matthew 25:45) So why on earth do we keep asking the same questions?

“At the evening of life, we shall be judged on our love” (CCC 1022; by St. John of the Cross)”

One Minute Reflection – 1 March

“Whoever is not with me is against me and whoever does not gather with me
scatters”………Luke 11:23

REFLECTION – “The devil desires to keep souls prisones but the Lord desires to set them free.   The devil incites us to evil but the Saviour invites us to practise good.   What accord is there between works that are so contrary?”…………..St Jerome

PRAYER – My Lord and my Saviour let me never give up the freedom from sin which You won for me. Help me to cling to You and shun all contact with evil. Help me Lord to renew my zeal and ambition to attain holiness in my Lenten journey. May my daily striving be because I love You, Lord Jesus, my love above all things! Amen

One Minute Reflection – 28 February

Whoever wishes to be my follower
must take up his cross each day
and follow in my footsteps…………..Luke 9:23

REFLECTION – Let the primary desire of your heart be to stir up in yourselves an ardent and affectionate desire to imitate Jesus in all your works.
Strive to do everything as the Lord Himself would do……………St John of the Cross

PRAYER – Lord Jesus, help me to pattern my life after You.  Grant that I may imitate You completely – in all my thoughts, words and deeds.  May Your Holy Face be before my eyes in every moment, in every word, in every deed.    Lord Jesus Christ, have mercy on me, a sinner!  Amen
