Thought for the Day – 3 April

Gradually Father Luigi took on the fundamental traits of a spiritual life centred on Jesus Christ, loved and imitated in the humility and poverty of His incarnation in Bethlehem, in the simplicity of His working life at Nazareth, in His total immolation on the cross on Calvary and in the silence of the Eucharist.   And since Jesus had said: “Whatever you did to one of the least of these my brethren you did it to me”, it is to them that every day Father Luigi devoted his life with the practical commitment to “seek first the kingdom of God and his justice” convinced that all the rest will be given according to the gospel promise.   All the works he set in motion during his life reflect this preferential option for the poorest, the lowliest, the abandoned.
The more we read of the Saints, the more we know the answer without any doubt.   For it has been given to us by God Himself, “whatever you do unto the least of these my brethren you did it to me.” (Matthew 25:45) So why on earth do we keep asking the same questions?

and teach them should not cause you discouragement
because you know you are doing all this for Jesus”.

PRAYER – Heavenly Father, let me strive – through constant prayer and careful reflection to know Your will for me. Then help me Lord to offer You what You desire rather than what I want. Let me love You first and above all and then my neighbour as myself. St Luigi Scrosoppi, pray for us, amen.

REFLECTION – “Observe a surprising fact. God is on high. You exalt yourself and God flees from you. You humble yourself and He comes to you.

PRAYER – Almighty Father, whenever I seek to take pride in what I do, please remind me of the way things really are. The only good I have and am comes from You; all that is mine is my weakness. REFLECTION – “This man of suave eloquence and eminent talent shone as brightly by his virtues as by his doctrine. By his faith and zeal the Gothic people have been converted from Arianism to the Catholic faith”…..St Isidore of Seville speaking of his brother St Leander, whom we celebrate today.

PRAYER – Help me to discern through prayer and meditation what You truly want of me. Then enable me to offer it to You – and indeed to offer myself and all I have to You. St Leander, you were and are an example to all around you, please pray for us, amen!

PRAYER – Grant me Your grace to overcome my natural fear of suffering Lord.   Strengthen me to bear my sufferings in union with Your sacred Passion, for the salvation of the world.  St John Ogilvie you are an example to me, please pray that this Lenten time will assist us all in overcoming our fear of sharing in the Passion of our God. “But above all these things have charity, which is the bond of perfection…” – Col 3:14

REFLECTION – “By the power of the Holy Ghost, Casimir burned with a sincere and unpretentious love for Almighty God that was almost unbelievable in its strength. So rich was his love and so abundantly did it fill his heart, that it flowed out from his inner spirit toward his fellow men. As a result nothing was more pleasant, nothing more desirable for him, than to share his belongings and even to dedicate and give his entire self to Christ’s poor, to strangers, to the sick, to those in captivity and all who suffer. To widows, orphans and the afflicted, he was not only a guardian and patron but a father, son and brother.” (From the Biography of Saint Casimir, written by a contemporary).

PRAYER – Loving Father, pour out Thy divine love into my heart and soul. Let me co-operate with that love and in this way strive for perfection in all virtues. REFLECTION – “Francisco bore without complaining the great sufferings caused by the illness from which he died.    It all seemed to him so little to console Jesus: he died with a smile on his lips.    Little Francisco had a great desire to atone for the offences of sinners by striving to be good and by offering his sacrifices and prayers.

One Minute Reflection – 19 February

REFLECTION – “Keep a clear eye toward life’s end. Do not forget your purpose and destiny as God’s creature. What you are in His sight is what you are
and nothing more. Remember that when you leave this earth, you can take nothing that you have received…but only what you have given; a full heart enriched by honest service, love, sacrifice and courage.”…………St Francis of Assisi

PRAYER – God of mercy, teach me to live as You have ordained. Help me to follow Your commandments with courage and steadfast devotion. REFLECTION – “Let Mary never be far from your lips
and from your heart.

PRAYER – Heavenly Father, grant me the grace to have Mary as my constant intercessor. Allow me to reach out to her as my mother, to lead me to her Son, for she is Your beloved Daughter, who carried Your Son to us in order that we might see our way and be able to reach our home in heaven. Holy Founders of the Servites, pray for us all that we may be blessed by the intercession and protection of Mary our Mother and please pray for us all, amen.

REFLECTION – “When the Holy Spirit is in a soul, He communicates Himself in one way or another.    We can say that He makes virtue contagious and turns a simple faithful into an apostle.”………St Claude de la Colombiere

PRAYER – Heavenly Father, grant that Your Holy Spirit may inspire me to be a true follower of Your Son, Jesus the Christ. May He dwell in me always and keep me ever on the path of holiness.
